    Check it!

I just finished up another grand semester, here at the ever-illustrious San Diego State, and decided to take a quick sneaky-peek at AZCOM one weekend. Must tell you all: LOVED. IT. They're actually expanding the campus with 6-8 new buildings that are due to be up and running before my admission year....

Who's way stoked? <---This girl, right here!

The curriculum seems pretty fantastic as well: they're all about integrating clinical experience early on. Which means me and Mr. Rig A. Mortis Man will be tangoing a bit earlier than once thought (if all goes to plan and I attend AZCOM...you know...minor technicality).

Anyone considering it/visited/may be indifferent to the whole situation but wants to post anyway?

Well, since you asked ever so nicely....I am indifferent to the whole situation.

But its good to know something to look at in the near future (assuming things go down hill for me this process).

Thantis, it is what I am here for: providing information to the masses (albeit useless much of the time).

What's your poison, hm? Have any specialties in mind?

AZCOM is a very nice campus. again, every school has their pros and cons. you should check out some of the other schools to get a good idea about what you like and don't like in all of them. that's always a good place to start

Well those masses are known as The Unwashed Masses (legit title that I just bestowed upon them) and they are mostly sheep.

As to my poison...cyanide has quite the kick.

Specialties...I have thus far shadowed a few internal med docs and one general/vascular surgeon. Surgery was nice to watch....an -ectomy of a tumor near the shoulder blade was quite nice to watch indeed (looked like a fatty piece of chicken breast). I will leave it up to rotations to see though what clicks, because one can't know how cold the pool is until one dives in.

You don't look so good there, my rabid fellow denizen of the murky depths of SDN.

If its the cyanide comment that bothers you, you have to remember that there are many different kinds....some are poisons and some are antidotes to poisons.

In all things in life, there is a purpose.

I thought AZCOM was absolutely fantastic when I interviewed there. Really beautiful campus, incredibly nice staff, happy students... All around great.

Thantis, I'm sorry to hear it no longer works for you! It adds such a spice to certain dishes! I think I'm going through an arsenic phase...

And my dearest Ry, I was unaware that anyone would have wanted to roadtrip! I mean, I could have had someone accompany me in my showtunes! It's about a 5-5 and a half hour drive from here: take the 8 most of the way. Once you get past the mountains is gets boooooorrrrrrring.

You'll like AZCOM. It was wicked, brah.

I relegate my anonymous, road-trip requests to the Creepers International sites. It makes for an interesting ride. Kinda like the Bud Light commercials!

    "What's the chainsaw for, buddy?"

    "Uhhhh....it's a bottle opener..."

At least you don't have to hear the usage of "brah" in the midwest. That sells me on the midwest alone. ;)

I interviewed and was accepted to AZCOM for C/O 2012, I was very impressed with the school and their curriculum. Most the students I spoke with were pretty happy with their education there. Some are concerned about the class size increase/availability of good clinical rotations during 3rd and 4th year but I think AZCOM has the means and resources to make sure their students are happy during clinicals. Overall I think it would be a great place to go to school, not to mention being able to enjoy 75 degree winters (as long as you don't mind 120 degree summers :D)

He just got expelled from his university. If he were a minority he'd be in max for life.

AZCOM's curriculum (from what I understand) is no different than any other lecture based curriculum. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Apparently it is quite different. Look at the pass rates...100% for seven years. They have an average of 99%. To me that sounds like its a bit different than that of the others. How? I have no clue.

its hard to chose over older DO schools with smaller class size and hometown rotations. Not to mention, cheaper tuition. I guess I am biased.

At the sametime, they must be doing something right. They always had a good match list.

Pretty much proves it that it doesnt matter where you, as long as you comfortable with the location and that location is in the US

The basis of learning for AZCOM is similar to a traditional style of curriculum, yes. HOWEVER, they introduce clinical rotations early in the program (i.e., you will be sent to clinical once a week in your first and second year). There philosophy follows the idea that students learn exponentially in a hands-on environment. So yes, it IS different.

And, in reference to preferential (I think I created a word, but go with it) feelings about schools, in the long run it doesn't matter what school you are going to. All one has to concentrate on is excelling in the classes, asking tons of questions, and maintaining the untainted view that patients are people and not dollar signs.

Can I get a hallelujah, brothers and sisters!
