Is commitment to service expected of all physicians/medical students?

For my diversity essays, I will be speaking on how I will contribute to student body diversity via my commitment to service (which is seen through my experiences, involvements, first-generation background, and studies in population & preventative health). However, I'm slightly wary that commitment to service is something expected of all applicants, so such a topic discussed will, in fact, not contribute to the diversity of the student body.

Would anyone be willing to shed some light and provide their perspective? Thank you so much!

I think that if you included a specific service commitment it could word. Considering the nature of the field, I'm guessing many people, to some extent, will devote themselves to service. If you were heavily involved in a specific organization for first-generation immigrants or something, it would be better. Then you show that your diversity is in that specific passion that you have (rather than just the broad topic of service).
