After one too many semesters I will be finishing up my associates this summer with a 2.9 GPA.

My main problem is that these past few semesters I've taken 1 class per semester and due to personal issues I've failed both classes. My GPA is a 2.9 after these classes factor in, I am worried this will automatically exclude me from acceptance.

Do dental schools look down upon part time semesters? And would I have a chance if I bring my GPA up and/or complete a Masters degree?

I hope to make all A's at a 4 year university but realistically it will be a mix of A's and B's.

I would like my GPA to be around a 3.4-3.5 once I apply (TX Resident)

I am also considering the idea of a informal postbacc or masters program after my bachelors to prove I can handle a full time upper course load and succeed.

How many semesters have you taken so far? If you can bring your GPA up to 3.4-3.5 before you apply/graduate that'd be best

I've taken 8 semester plus this summer, this is mainly due to many part time semesters that had set me back (personal issues)

Now my main priority is acing all my classes at a 4 year.

Yes, you have extremely low chances. Don't waste your money on dental schools until you invest money to get your GPA higher.

Step by step. You need to demonstrate you can do dental school. If you can get good grades with heavy course loads for a while, that would show you can do it. It would take a big change in whatever is causing your grades to suffer, however. Message me if you'd like! I have a somewhat similar story

I don't think dental school is out of the question. Once you get to a 4-year university, you'll definitely want to take a stronger course load (~15-17 credits) every semester and maintain mostly A's in order to bring up your GPA. In addition, you'll need to make sure you have a very strong set of DAT scores to combat the low GPA from your AA. It also wouldn't hurt to have way over the "recommended" 100 hours of dental shadowing. Good luck!

Just like others have said, you need to get that GPA up, but you need to do it fast. Demonstrating solid performance with a heavy courseload will show admissions you can handle it. Dental School is not easy. Many excellent undergrad performers become very overwhelmed in school, and find they aren't as strong students in pre-doc.

Keep chipping away, work hard and I'm sure you can do it. Good luck!
