Hi all,

Long time since I've been...been busy travelling cross-country and getting settled in.
I love my house!!!!!! Needs major landscaping so that's what I've been doing, plus had a quick vacation to Canada to see the folks.
The drive across country was horrendous!!!! Cali. to Indiana. We had a 26' Penske (cheapest place to get a moving truck), a 31' RV, my truck, and an SUV...and 4 cats. I forgot about humidity and we hit Nebraska 95 degrees and about 90% humidity...had to stop early one day because cats were getting dehydrated poor things. Other than that we got across with only one blown tire outside Salt Lake City.

The new city is great.....met new neighbors (many are PhD students, but not in psych), having a ball. I've arranged with my professor to meet before school starts to talk about potential classes to take, etc.

How did everyone else's trip go? Are you liking the new city or having regrets???

Hey Twiggers,

The move went well, we hired movers because we had so much stuff and a third story walk-up. We are loving Philly. Most people in our neighborhood are young professionals or students. Last night we went out to meet some of my husband's new classmates. He is starting med school in a few weeks. My classes don't start until Sept 26th because Drexel's on the quarter system so I have a while still to explore and get my bearings. No regrets at all, although Philly is definitely a different type of city than Manhattan!

Sounds great! We're excited to be closer to the east coast...both Philly and NYC are only a 10 hr drive. It'll be great to see something other than California and Nevada for driving trips. Are you going crazy yet being off for so long? I start in about 3 weeks, and am dying to get started (I've been off since end of June)...the most time off I've had in 4 1/2 years and the landscaping is kinda getting boring.
I have to go and get my new drivers license tomorrow....hopefully I'll pass the written test.....weird how I've had a license for 10 years but don't really think about all the little things.

I am so jealous of you all!! Because of some unexpected family stuff, that we were not expecting to happen, I won't even be leaving until next week, and classes start Aug 22nd. So, I am definitely cutting this close!

Because I had thought I would be out there earlier, I hadn't started to look for housing too seriously, but am now trying to desperately rent something over the phone (which seems totally insane to me!) but am working on it.

So, hopefully I will be posting from my new apartment by the end of next week!

Hahaha. Only a 10 hour drive, eh? Just messin around. As a native east coaster who spent 4 grueling years in Indiana for college, I only wish I had the mindset back then that home was "only" 10 hrs away...

lol...Since living in California meant being 5 hrs from LA and 3 hrs from Reno or Tahoe there wasn't much else to go see and do. So being less than 10 hrs from major east coast cities is pretty cool to us. Cali is pretty isolated....you see California and not much else (maybe Vegas).

Sunny: I hope you get everything worked out!!! I am sure you will, and will probably be most thankful to get there and be settled in. Was it you who ended up in Reno? If so, I know living downtown around the casinos is not supposed to be a good area (according to casino dealers I've met up there), the suburbs are really nice though, but rent is a little expensive.
