do the majority of people on SDN have 36s, 37s, 38s on their MCATS?! Well to anybody else who has noticed this and doesnt have an awesome score like that, dont worry, there are others like myself that are with you.

they're probably just the ones who flaunt their scores the most (whether intentionally or unintentionally) and so it makes it seem like those scores are more prevalent than they actually are.

Yeh when I first started looking at this site that totally freaked me out. Mine's definitely not up there either...but hopefully my GPA will make up for it

A. There's only one MCAT

B. MDapps represents something like .7-1.0% of all applicants, SDN can't represent more than 15. Also, there's a reason so few people post their stats...

C. Chill.

Yea apparently a lot of smart/lucky peeps on SDN or a bunch of big fat liars or a combination of the two. :p

Anonymity is a beautiful thing.

I personally know of several people on here who have totally fabricated their stats - so take what everyone says with a grain of salt. Nearly all of my "in real life" friends got scores in the 25-29 range.

I got a 44 on the MCAT, wow, that was fairly easy for me to type.

I got a 46 WHATS UP

I know people in real life who have fabricated their stats... I guess you really can't trust anyone.

Yah, I've seen some crazy scores on ol' SDN. MCAT scores in the 40's, perfect GPA's, impeccable EC's. I've also seen a lot of posts from people who were struggling to come up with an instance in which they were morally or ethically challenged.

What truly makes a great doctor anyway? Why do med schools ask life experience questions if test scores are so damn important? Who can say?

But honestly, what's the point of fabricating your numbers if it's an anonymous profile anyway?

You think this website represents 15% of all applicants? I would say 5, maybe.

I don't have an awesome score like that. I only got a 35. :( Of course, that doesn't really matter a whole lot now that I'm a med student. :D

it's time to move on up to allo my friend, pre-allo no longer wants you.

To the op, spend a little time in the "what are my chances" forum. You'll realize they're not all 36+. The people that post here are either the neurotic overachievers or the chronic underachievers. It's important to worry about yourself and to just ignore how everyone else is doing, you'll go nuts.

concur with B, C is a good goal, as for A, if there's only one MCAT, how the heck do 65,000 applicants fit around the computer screen to decide how to answer a question on that single exam? Or do the majority of people score highly on their MCATS because 65,000 MCAT exams = not a singular exam?

And yes, I completed MCATs (two of them, unfortunately)

Don't worry Op, work really hard at the exam and get around the average score & it'll work out!

I completely agree with that. But again, like others have said, it's probably because others who don't do as well are less likely to flaunt it. I wish there was a <32 forum.

Oh wait, that's the "What are my chances?" sub-forum. I'm heading over there now.

It might be even less... Assume we have ~250 applicants this year in Pre Allo. Let's also assume 45,000 end up applying this year. We only represent 0.5% of all applicants... :hardy:

I think there is many more people visit PreAllo than post in it. If you included this, I could see 5-10% of applying people visit preAllo at least once and never post. I know I have been reading posts on this site for over 2 years but it wasn't till recently I starting posting.

Same here - been reading since 2005; created an account 2007; started posting like 2 months ago

there was also someone who made a thread to discuss whether or not it was worth it to have friends or if they just get in the way of studying....keep in mind some of the people you are dealing with on here

Forgive me my cynicism, but as a casual observer, it is easy to notice the remarkable - indeed, miraculous - effect that simply being on the internet has on people. Everyone's height/number of sexual partners/cup size/dick size/job/hometown/etc becomes more and more exaggerated under the cloak of eAnonymity. You oughtn't be surprised when people attempt to similarly inject a little exaggeration into their story, attempting to seem even more pornographic than the next applicant.

Furthermore, consider that there is a "type" that seeks out websites like these, and that such a type may not only eagerly embrace the previously mentioned fault but also possess a better than average profile without exaggeration.

Regardless of what you see on the news, you're unlikely to murdered in bed by a/n [insert threatening ethnic group here]. Similarly, regardless of what you read on SDN, you're unlikely to encounter a lot of 36+ MCATs in the real world.

i've been on the internet and an active member internet communities/forums since 1996. you are 100% right. the average internet penis size is 2" bigger than the normal population, the average internet benchpress is 100lb higher than the average in any gym, the salary of people with menial jobs is almost double what normal people make at that job. i doubt SDN with MCAT scores and GPAs and ECs, as much as you would expect honesty in future doctors, is any different.

WTF does the penis have to do with getting into med school

It's the interwebs. Don't believe everything on here.

With that said, many schools average well over a 34 on their MCAT for matriculants, so it may not be that big of an exaggeration, just a poor sampling method.

There are maybe a thousands people that score >35 any given year on the MCAT. It's really not surprising that we see maybe 50 people with such scores post on SDN.

people always told me I'm an overachiever because I did a lot of things... but because I wanted to be an engineer I put experience as my priority, not GPA. :( And no, I'm not a chronic underachiever. Therefore, I'm somewhere in the middle. Not everyone here is in the extremes.

Because some people crave admiration and attention that much. It's sad, I know.

Yup...roughly 68000 took the MCAT last year I believe, with a 35 being the 95th percentile, so that's about 3200 people. It's not so inconceivable that there are a fair number of those people posting on SDN.

To the OP, I'm applying right now and so I've been following the interview invite thread very closely, so believe me I know what it's like to think that everyone is smarter than me despite having a respectable score. That being said, I don't really think there's that much lying going on over here but like anything you read on the internets it's good to take things with a grain of salt.

Agreed. For further proof, make a poll asking for penis size and see how many potential porn stars we have here.

Hey, that's a good idea:

What's Yer Size?

A: 10"
B: 11"
C: 12"
D: All of the Above

Gonna get banned for this, I'm sure
