Is it OK to abbreviate school names after mentioning it once?

For some reason, I could not find a best answer to this question. I want to go with common sense on this one and say abbreviating is OK, but I just want to be sure. Sorry for the neuroticism... did not expect to get all the dense essays the first two days!

use their official abbreviations (ones that the school itself uses)

It's ok, in my experience. Abbreviated on secondaries and letters of update when I applied. Don't think adcoms are that nitpicky.
