The MTA strike screwed me!
I was counting on the final to pull up my grade, but it was moved to the 1st week of Jan. I cant take it then bcuz im taking at winter class, so the professor said she can grade me on the work that I've done. I can also take it in Feb, but what if I do worse?! I dont have time to study for it - a million things going on.

To take it in Feb or not to take? that is the question.
😕

A B+ (3.33 points) is not great and it could hurt your science gpa (a little) compared with a A- or A but it is not the end of the world.

HELL NO!! A B+ is just fine. go smoke a fatty and chill. Or end your life now.
Whatever is easier. 🙄

In terms of top 10 schools, it won't make a lick of difference as long as the rest of your grades are an A- or so average. In terms of other schools, it just flat won't matter.

Actually a B+ is a 3.5 so I would say HELL NO!! A B+ is just fine. go smoke a fatty and chill. Or end your life now.

(B=3.33, B+=3.5, A-=3.7 A=4.00)
Jbone, as far as AMCAS is concerned, A=4, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3.0, B-=2.7.

I thought a B was a 3.0, B+ a 3.33

B=3.0
B+=3.3
A/B=3.5
A-=3.7
A=4.0

What if your university just has A/B/C...etc? With no "-" or "+"?
Its just A=4, B=3, etc?

Sorry. Smokin too much. Thought it was higher than that. I still wouldn't re-take it. 👎
I never had A/B, only A, A-, B+, B, B- etc. so my B+ was 3.5.

B+ was the best chemistry grade I ever got, and I've gotten into my first choice (UNC). Suffice to say that a B+ is a perfectly fine grade, and in no way should you sweat it.

jbone that's a very strange avatar

um............ SLAP!!!! don't worry, you'll feel better in the morning and you won't even remember what you were so foolishly worried about 🙂

Ouch - a SLAP!
A B+ is painful enough.

Definitely take it in Feb. Having a B+ on your transcript is just not acceptable, especially in such an important course. If you are unable to raise the grade, I would seriously think about doing something else for a career. I heard law and investment banking are good options. 👍

B+ is fine...it's a 3.33 at some places, and apparently it's higher or lower at other places. is this really worth arguing over? i'm going to watch my soap opera with my parents...and then scrubs 🙂

While I do cringe when I read posts like yours b/c they echo the "typical" pre-med anxiety that has come to frustrate me, I mostly cringe b/c I used to think just like you.
No worries, I had a B- and a C in Orgo. I have one acceptance in hand and am on the waitlist at my top choice. You'll be fine, just keep trying your best--thats all you can really do.

Dude. The OP is not asking if s/he should retake the class because of a B+. As I read it, the question is asking if s/he should take the final or not.

To the OP: Take the final silly. Maybe you'll do better, maybe you'll do worse. If you were planning on doing better on the final, you probably won't do worse. Reviewing it agian before Feb. will help consolidate info you're going to need for Orgo II and for the MCAT. As far as I'm concerned, yes, it would be stupid to retake orgo or flip out because of a B+, but just as stupid to not take the final and settle for a B+.

No problem with a B+

maybe a bit of a problem spelling organic though....

You better start working on your interview to become a Bio teacher because there is no way in hell you will get into any med school with a B+ in organic. Even in the Carribean. lol, I'm j/k bro. From what I hear on the boards, a B+ is not bad at all.

If you think a B+ is not ABOVE adequate, then you are only fooling yourself.

If you waste your time retaking a B+, then you get a big 👎

He's not talking about retaking, he's talking about whether or not he should take the final. Screw it, it won't matter. I had a B+ in Ochem on my transcript and I still got in. No one cares as long as you're pulling an A or a B in OChem.

yikes- tough crowd. i found orgo to be tough- to me, a B+ is fiiiiiiine. You can always take another science class with the same number of credits and ace it (like something you find easy, astronomy, easy bio class, etc) and then it will average with your B+ to an A- gpa if you are really stressed out about the effect it will have on your bcpm. but yeah, it's really not a deal breaker, some of us have gotten a far worse grade than that!

Thank you guys sooooooooooo much for your replies.
I'm a bio major and the majority of my grades are A's. I love biology, Chem I like as well, it just doesnt like me back.

you made me feel a little better. so thank you
