Just took the MCAT, was getting 28-31 in practice exams, the real one seemed harder. Havn't even looked at the application. LORs are mostly taken care of, but I would like to get in one more by a physician (trying to find one to shadow). Should I wait til next cycle?

Help please. Thank you

Hey, if you were scoring about about 28-31 on AAMC practice tests, you can expect a few points below that average (in general), because the real deal is harder.

If you JUST took the test, and begin filling out AMCAS now, you'll be "verified and complete w/AMCAS" in early September. IMO, that's a bit late for most applicants, especially if your MCAT is going to be around 30 and you plan to enter MD. It wouldn't hurt to try, and you MAY get in..but it'll be tough, in my opinion. Another important factor in this decision is how much money you have to throw around. I applied to about 30 schools and have spent 3900 dollars in application fees alone.

What's your GPA? If it's phenomenally high, it may increase your chances.

You can generally expect to score around your average on the practice tests (yes, it was harder for you, BUT it was also harder for everyone else). It is late in the game to start working on your primary. I would save the $$ and start applying next year.

Good luck!

No, it isn't too late to apply this cycle, BUT I would recommend that you take the year and get everything together. That'll give you time to retake the MCAT if you feel like it, get whatever letters you want, and maybe get another volunteer or research activity under your belt.

My opinion of applying to med school: Do it once, and do it right.
