Is it worth it to do a pre-doctoral orthopedics research fellowship?

I've been looking at a couple of these programs. How beneficial are they for matching orthopedics?

Typically it seems like you take a year off and do a bunch of research into whatever your mentor is into, you publish several papers, are part of a journal club, and have various other responsibilities. Some of these are meant for medical students, others are looking for med school grads.

Are they worth doing?

I've been wondering the same thing! I saw 85% 2018 yale med students took 5 years to graduate most choosing to do a research year (some pursue second degree), does this indicate that fellowships like those are beneficial ?

I did one before starting medical school for a year. Worked with a few med students between 3rd and 4th yr. We all got around 20 publications each during the year (some were shared obviously, so differing author positions), but I would say it is 100% worth it
