is it wrong to ask for a nomination for something to someone?

is it wrong to ask for a nomination (like for a award or some other recognitions) to someone (like a prof or an advisor)?

Just nominate yourself, it saves the hassle of bothering others.

I don't think so. Whether or not they follow through is still their choice.

I don't think it is wrong. Perhaps they aren't aware of the "something" or your desire to apply to the "something." Nominations are in many ways similar to a recommendation. If they don't think you are fit, they won't do it. But I'm sure you know best whether you are a fit for this "something" that you want. I say go ahead and ask... because even if they say "no", you'll still be back where you started if you weren't going to ask.
