Hello, US-IMG 3rd year here trying to get letter of rec from upcoming Neurology rotation to apply for Neurology residencies. Our school's Neurologist is a DO. Is letter of rec from DO in chosen specialty ok for MD applicant? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Doesn't matter if letter writer is a DO. It does matter what the person's title is. Are they just some random neurologist at some random community hospital, or do they have an academic appointment from a university or are they the chair of the department, etc?

As a US-IMG you need to make your application as competitive as possible. That means LORs from people with academic appointments, or at least department chairs, etc. You should be putting your effort into doing away rotations at the bigger institutions that accept IMGs.

Roger that. Thank you to the both of you and Merry Christmas.

At one time, the president of the American Society of Anesthesiology was a DO. I work with him. Nice guy, good doc.

So yes, a LOR from one can be very helpful sometimes.
