Hello guys! I just received my Canadian DAT score.
I am not sure what's the average score for most Canadians accepting to US schools. Is my score competitive enough to apply for 2006 cycle? Or, should I save my money for next round? Thanks!

Bio:16

Reading: 16
Academic average: 17

Perceptual:19
Carving: 5

current overall GPA (3rd year student): 3.3-3.4

I would definitely retake the DAT to be on the safe side since you will be considered international student in the US (harder to get into US dental schools, unless you are applying only to private schools). 17 AA is below the national average, so you might want to increase that (just to be on the safe side although there are exceptions as people do get accepted with 17 AA).

Also, are you going to get your bachelor degree before applying to d-school? If you are applying for 2006 cycle without a bachelor, some school require a GPA of at least 3.5 to be considered.

BTW, how did you get 5 in your carving? Did you break your soap?

No.

Your bio score is a bit low and so is the RC.

If you want to go to Howard and you are a minority, then you might be ok.

As for the rest of the US schools, take the test again and aim for 18's (or above).

A good idea is to read through the DAT forum, there are great threads geared and how poeple studies and what they used to get great scores. I think one of them is tips from those who got 20 and above.

Good luck.

WAY too low. Retake it in Feb if you can. If not, just take the American DAT when you feel ready. You need to give these American schools a reason to pick you over Americans and with those scores, they have every reason to reject you.

thanks for the tips guys. Most likely I will not take the Canadian DAT in Feb. since my courseload is very heavy next term and I don't think that I will be prepared by then.

Can I sumbit my application for the 2006 cycle this summer and then write the exam on November instead?

Yes, but that will be kind of late. Try to get your DAT scores as early as possible (around June). By the time, your November Canadian DAT scores get to the US schools (around January), it will be very very late in the cycle.

Just take the US DAT if you can. Study for one or two months in the spring/summer and take it. Submit your AADSAS in May/June and you'll be set. And those scores certainly won't do it for Canadian schools either. Just study harder and take them again. The DAT is not hard, you just need to study. I'm sure you can improve your marks with a little bit of studying!

hey Audio, I didn't study enough for my first DAT, just few weeks on it. I kinda want to write the Canadian DAT instead since I still would like to try applying UBC.

Now, I am considering to apply in 2007 cycle instead when I just completed my 4th year, since my overall GPA is not that high comparing to other applicants. I think it's better to get prepared as much as possible before applying instead just trying out without much prep like what I did with the first DAT.
