Hey everyone! So I just graduated college in May (Illinois Resident, white male), and will be applying to medical schools next year. I wanted to make my list early (using the great advice on this forum and MSAR) in order to work on filling any gaps for schools within my range by the time I apply. I know that my less-than-mediocre gpas will seriously hinder me when applying (started out with a 3.13 after both freshman year semesters and then 3.6+ every semester thereafter). ANY help or additions/deletions/alterations you think I should make on this list given my stats would be greatly appreciated!
STATS:
  • 516 MCAT, 3.6 cGPA, 3.4 sGPA (3.45 AACOMAS)
  • Hospital Volunteering, 200 hours
  • Clinical Volunteering, 200 hours
  • Shadowing, 100 hours
  • Working as a Clinical Research Coordinator for the next two years at a well funded, nationally-known hospital
  • 3 years of neuroscience undergraduate research (no publications)
  • 1 pending publication with local medical school
  • Unpaid preventative and public health internship at Chicago clinic for the local underserved Southeast Asian community, 2 years and counting (300 hours so far)
  • 5 executive board positions held during undergrad (for multiple years), helped start one of those organizations on my college campus (3 pre-medical, 1 cultural, 1 environmental)
  • Started volunteering at a food pantry last month, 190 hours by application time
  • Started volunteering for an organization that provides birthday parties for homeless children, 1 party per month
  • Will be co-facilitating a group session of elderly LGTBQ individuals at a clinic focused on bridging LGTBQ health disparities and discrimination
  • Will have DO/MD LORs as well as my undergrad's committee letter

You have a good list and should receive many DO interviews and some MD interviews. Remove Rutgers since they accept few OOS applicants. Unless you are URM remove Meharry.

@Goro, thank you so much! It's always a privilege to have your input on things like this. Thanks for helping me tailor down the list, but do you have any MD/DO options you think I should add? I'm really trying to only apply once, so I don't mind casting a large net.
