I have yet to take my step II boards and the only way I see it mattering (beyond needing to pass) is if it plays any role in fellowship decisions. Anyone know? I know it does in other specialties like IM.

I ask, because I would prefer to devote my end of fourth year time to other things, if Step 2 is not a factor.

first, consider the fact that most people get very similar scores on step 1 and 2. also remember that step 2 is very easy and doesn't require much studying.

most importantly, getting a fellowship (in any specialty) is usually about (1) who you know; (2) who they know; (3) residency performance; (4) research. so don't worry about it.
