Anyone taken or is taking a Kaplan PCAT test prep course this summer and do you find it helpful. It already started in my area so I'm a bit late. I wonder if I can still sign up since the class started on June 27. I just bought a Kaplan PCAT book but I just don't have the faintest idea where to focus on and those course are a bit expensive but seem to be structured. Any feedback would be great and help me decide if I will sign up tonight.

By all accounts from people who have BTDT on this forum, the PCAT course consists of someone in a polo shirt and jeans reading to the class from the same PCAT book you have in your hands.

If you have trouble working independently and perform better under a structured environment it could prove useful, but if you're been diligent in your studies and know the material in the pre-requisites, you'll be fine.

It's just another standardized test, so the Kaplan course would help you ease the test jitters if you get test anxiety, I suppose, but it seems to be an utter waste of money unless you really are unsure of yourself, need structure, or feel like spending some money to stimulate the economy.

I'm currently taking the Kaplan PCAT classroom-based course, and so far it's pretty good. The major bonus (and it's debatable whether it's worth the big bucks) is that you get three full-length practice tests plus MANY subtests (e.g., verbal ability, chemistry, etc) that drill you on the subject areas. And the overall structure of the course helps me a lot, since I tend to procrastinate.

The actual in-class instruction is like Passion4Sci said: a young khakis-wearing recent grad basically reading from a lesson book that you could read on your own. But if you need structure, the course might be worth it. Look for discounts -- often Kaplan will give $200 off of the advertised price if you get a coupon thru your school or by adding yourself to their e-mail list.

I don't think i's necessary at all. A lot of people that I know did really well without having to do these courses. In fact, those that did the courses felt that they were ripped off.
