Is there a list of what residencies are the most competitive down to least?

And another stupid question...everyone sort of graduates medschool with the same credentials, maybe slight differences in electives right?

So residency match is just a matter of what you want to do? What if you're aiming for one residency but get rejected EVERYWHERE? What then?

Thanks.

Seppuku of course. Or if you are a coward, take a year off to improve your credential and try again. Not sure what you mean by similar credential, there are other stuff like Dean's Letter and board scores.

The day after the match there is a list of open residencies. There are always lots of open residencies because there are about 2000 more slots than there are graduates! People who don't match quickly send their resumes and other application materials to these open positions.

Common open slots are in Surgery, Family Practice, Psychiatry, and Internal Medicine. I have a friend who graduated from Yale. She didn't match into ObGyn so she grabbed an open surgery slot in the scramble. After working in Surgery for a year she decided she didn't like it and switched into ObGyn.
