Is there a patient cap on wards?

Hi,

I'm wondering...if on a PM&R ward rotation, is there an ACGME cap on admissions or how many patients a resident is allowed to carry?

Can't seem to find that info anywhere.

Officially: residents on an inpatient service should carry a minimum of 8 patients/day. There is no limit on number of rehab admits.

Are you worrying you'll be overworked during a PM&R residency?

I think the max I ever had was about 10-12 admits and discharges in 1 day. I believe that's the norm for IM.

My averages were more like 6-7 admits and discharges/day on a busy rotation. Plus carrying about 10-12 pts for daily notes.

Depending on where you go/are, you might cover 50+ pts on weekends, but rarely admit or DC.
