Is it true that incoming NYCOM students don't get their white coats 'til 2nd year? If so, do they still have a ceremony then? This seems weird since the coat/ceremony is supposed to symbolize your induction into the medical field.

The NYCOM administration changed it so that students don't get their white coats until after second year. They felt that the white coat ceremony would be more symbolic if the students received the coats after working hard during the first two years. I think there will still be a ceremony like they had for us. Ours was in a hotel and we were allowed to invite guests to see the ceremony - it was very nicely run. Hope that answers your question. If you have anymore, feel free to ask!
