Reapplicant, debating for this cycle. I started pre-med late in college, so my clinical experiences are relatively weak. I graduated in 2018 and have worked at the NIH since doing clinical research (working with patients, not cells, but whatever). Wondering if I should take another year/not apply because my activities are weak. I AM NOT MSTP OR MD/PHD. I started research early in college, switched to pre-med, but liked my research so I stuck with it.
1. publications: 2 with two more in press (2nd author or 3rd author)
2. presentations/posters: strong
3. nursing home volunteering: ~36 hours (nonclinical)
4. rehabilitation/disabled aid: 30 hours (very clinical)
5. developmental psych research 1: 1200 hours
6. developmental psych research 2: 700 hours
7. hospital volunteering 1: 30 hours
8. hospital volunteering 2: 50 hours and counting (doing blood donations right now)
9. mentoring hispanic kids: 80 hours
10. National Institutes of Health research assistant: ~2400 hours
11. bartending in college: 500 hours
12. other job with athletic department in college: 500 hours
13. tutoring kids now: 50 hours and counting
14. Shadowing: 100 hours
15. International clinical internship in hospital: 120 hours (this was through university and not something totally bogus)
16. Certified Nursing Aid course: 77 hours (22 hours in the nursing home).
I see kids who are solving world hunger on here as one of their activities and creating charities as their others so wondering if I should take another year off and do something meaningful that isn't research.
