Is there any value in MD/MPH programs?

What kind of jobs would be open to you if you held an MPH in addition to your MD? Is it worth the extra expense/study to do so? I would potentially be looking at an epidemiology concentration within the MPH track, but I have a strong desire to hold an MD as well. The idea would be to use the MPH as a springboard somehow into a global health profession or career. Thoughts?
