Does this question come up often in interviews? And what do you say if that school is not your top choice? I'd like to say "I don't have ONE top choice. Every school is unique in the combination of curriculum, student body, opportunities, etc, that they offer. Maybe that's a politician's answer but I would hate to actually say, No you're not my top choice, such-and-such school is.

i really doubt you'll be asked that. maybe, if you're indicating throughout the interview that the school is your top choice then he/she will come right out and ask that. otherwise, it seems a little unfair. they will always give you the chance at the end to say that when they ask you if you have anything else you want to tell them. i was interviewed by 5 different people last year and not one of them asked me that. however, they all gave me the opportunity to give them any last comments at the end of the interview. best of luck.

I don't think they'll ask that - the closest thing I have been asked was which other schools I applied to.

But if you did get that question, I would say something along these lines: I don't feel like I can make a decision until I've visited all of my schools, but I've definitely been impressed with School X because .... (There I'd put in a few things I liked on the tour, or knew from the viewbook, or something generic even.)

I was actually asked this question yesterday in the form of "....I know you haven't had the opportunity to visit every campus and interview there yet, but right now where does our school rank on your list?" I think this is a rare question, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared for it. I basically mentioned the positives of my visit that day noting the things that would make me a good fit to their program including location...it actually was my top choice, so it was easier. I was also asked if I had already had any interviews and if I had any currently set up for the future. Good luck everyone!

actually, i was only blatantly asked this question once. i told the guy that there were at least 5 or more schools i'd rather go to (not in those exact words). He seemed to understand perfectly and i was accepted soon after. btw, he was a dr. w/ the hospital, not an administrator, so that may have played a part.
