I interviewed in november, and I was admitted in December. Boo-yah. This process makes no sense. I got rejected from your first choice, Pritzker. Ok--let me repeat, before you ask for my stats--this process makes nooooooo sense. none at all. Anyways, go Canes.

Yeah, the process sucks a$$. Every time I think about UF not interviewing me this year, I want to punch a hole in the wall. Apparently someone with crappy stats (me last year) is more attractive than someone with nationally competitive stats (me this year). Sealing the deal with UF this year was a goal of mine.

Bastards!

Don't ask questions. Just roll with the punches. It's less painful this way. Med school admission offices are largely incompetant. Sorry, but I think it's true!

5. i think they're very backed up at Miami. call and ask...i think they were backed up less than a month ago when i got an interview. they send them out in buches it seems to me. i think there's another huge bunch going out..but now i'm just BSing. call the secretary and find out what's up.

and it really is pretty nonsensical. some students are picked for interview because of some stupid EC they may have done that makes everybody smile in the admissions committee, while another more Stat-competitive applicant may be overlooked for some dumb reason. did you read what (ucla2000 i think) was posted here directly from an adcom member's post? well supposedly an adcom member). read that and you'll see how picky those people are. apparently they HAVE to be like that (but i think only at the best schools because every applicant is unbelievable--but at 2nd tier schools, it shouldn't be so damn random. the more i talk, and hte more i feel like i know, the more i realize i don't know much. until we become adcom members (for some of us never) we won't know anything either. they keep it on the DL fo sure...and they'll never let us know ****, and it actually pisses me off a lot. oh dwell

Med school admissions at every school is a crapshoot. You're either under- (they're trying to go up in the rankings) or over- qualified (they don't want to reduce their yield), or just one in the crowd of applicants matching their average stats (and for some inscrutable reason don't stand out in the crowd to the particular people who read your file). With the numbers of qualified apps all these schools get, there is no way that the process wouldn't be somewhat random. There is absolutely no way they could take all the qualified applicants, there just aren't enough slots. And there is absolutely no way to be completely fair about it.

But they should have taken you, SwampMan!! :D

7. every school really does get more awesome applicants than they have seats for. some schools (ie UF) get more awesome applicants than they can have interviews for. but still, and i've seen it happen, not so great applicants get interviews while greater applicants don't. it depends on the day they review your file, what they had for breakfast, if you look good in your picture, if your tie is ugly or you hair is in a pony tail, if you have an ugly middle name, if your shoe laces were untied for the picture (which they can't even see), etcetera, etcetera

Caveman, everything was perfect! PERFECT I TELL YOU!!! J/K

As much as I hate hearing this (and I've never said it), everything will work out for the best. Hopefully I'll hear good news from EVMS, which was one of my top choice schools when I started this insane process.

Good luck everyone. In keeping with the theme of this thread, I'd like to reiterate one thing: FLORIDA SCHOOLS SUCK!!! :D

Oh, and I interviewed at UM with the same MCAT as you Pelican Man, and a bit lower GPA with an impressive downward trend.

Well I called the secretary.

And I told her the situation and she told me everything was in.

So I asked if they reviewed my application and she said that they did but haven't made a decision yet. So I was like IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO. Because I told her I have a 4.0 and a 31 and she was like YES I SEE THAT. She was like all you can do is wait. She was really nice actually.

I see the problem now! Within the last 24 hours, your MCAT has dropped a whole point, from a 32 to a 31. This CAN'T be good. So, which is it?

Yeah, Eastern Virginia Medical School. It's a great school (from what I've seen) in a great area. If you want, do a search and find the VIRTUAL TOURS thread I created a couple days ago. You can see the campus if you do what I've typed.

I don't know why this school isn't more attractive to VA residents! It is a little pricy relative to the other schools, but it is very progressive (it's only 27 or 29 years old...don't remember exactly). I think it is too young to be a hit, but I know it has a quality match list and has a good curriculum. One thing I like is their use of mock clinics, where actors are paid to present pathology to you. You get taped and critiqued. UF has something similar, but I haven't seen similar clinics at many other schools.

Ok, I sound like a one-man promotion service. It's a good school, what can I say! I'm gonna be bummed if they shoot me down, but I've already got a place to go.

14. For the person who wanted some stats from those who interviewed:
i interviewed in feb and my #'s are not that good. My overall is 3.4, but for the last 3 yrs i have a flawless record. messed up first 2 yrs
mcat was 7,12,10M.
I know this chick who interview a few weeks ago with a 3.3ish and 26 on MCAT; never gave me a breakdown of the scores.
At my interview there was another guy there w/ a 26on mcat. i have lots of friends w/ better #'s but they are sitting at home slitting their wrists.
Hope these #'s help or at least piss you off.

Are we located in the state w/ the most competition? I hate that word, but you know what i mean
