Someone posts a perfectly serious and useful thread in Pre-Allo and before long it gets hijacked off topic by the usual suspects bantering with their buddies back and forth in a 3rd grade way: accusing eachother of homosexuality, other comical insults, saying "You're mean!", mentioning in jokes. [Example du jour: the Most Under-Rated Schools thread] This is completely rude and f*****g annoying. Keep it in the chat room or the Lounge (if as apparently has occured, the Lounge has been designated the toilet of SDN)! No one cares!! God, if I encounter this juvenile mentality in med school, I will avoid that crowd like the plague!

Personally, what I hate most is people who can never take a joke or take themselves entirely too seriously and then, on top of that, feel the need to shout that they have a greater sense of professionalism and are superior to everyone from the rooftop.

So one thing is said in a thread of mostly useful information.. How does that denegrate what has been said already?

Amen to that, quaileggs. And nice avatar, too.

life is too important to be taken seriously

Couldn't agree with you more quaileggs. I miss my old SDN.

They also post the SAME things over and over (and over, and OVER...) again. It's like they don't read eachother's posts, or bother to search for the info they're looking for. That's neurotic pre-meds for you.

I do have to agree that sometimes, people act immature; especially when they start calling each other "fags" and "stupid" and "******ed", etc... Can't they think of any larger and more elaborate words?

But then again I have to agree that some of these posts are taken too seriously. I mean come on, everyone is probably living a serious and busy life with going to school and trying to do outstanding and they just want to have some fun here.

yea and isn't it annoying when premeds, med students or doctors get all up on their respective high-horses and spout off their arrogance by condescending to the rest of us who are "juvenile"?

please.

give me a break.

it's a message board.
don't take everything so seriously.

Why do you always try to come in and post "better than thou" type threads.

Why didn't you post this in the lounge or in preallo where it should be? Did you not want us to see it?

As for the thread, I really do NOT think it was that useful. It was saying "what school is most underrated" and people were posting top 20 schools. Oh please...they feel the need to really stroke themselves that much more?!??! Jeez....you know the top 20 schools are good, that's why they are there...no need to rub it in. I am totally supportive of the thread when it starts talking about less well known schools.

I personally find it annoying when people feel they are completely superior to others.

I can't stand it when people can't stick to the original topic!

Hey Scooby - I can't wait for your movie to come out in June. When is the exact opening night? Boy, that Daphne sure is a cutie. And how about those scoooby snacks? I sure could use one right now. I didn't have much to eat for dinner. I was working late and driving home and just put the kid to bed - boy he can be a handful, you know how those kids can be. Just the other day he said the funniest thing . . .

Scooby,
*Funny you mention it:I meant to post this thread in Pre-Allo but by accident posted it in Allo. By the time I realized my mistake there were a couple of responses to it so I couldn't just delete and move. I actually e-mailed the moderator of Allo and asked him to move it for me but my e-mail got bounced back to me. Does ****** not exist?
*I wouldn't say I "always" post holier-than-thou topics. I do sometimes go off a little when things annoy me. The crowd in The Lounge is allowed to talk about Playboy models and sex positions and such so I get my free speech too. There are obviously people who agree with me about the tone of this board sometimes. Saying I/we don't have any sense of humor is a nice attempt to shut us up but I think it is a nice energizing debate about the heart and soul of SDN. Obviously there are two schools of thought about how people see this board and what people want from this board. Just because some people don't share other people's particular brand of humor does not mean they have no sense of humor. There is a big difference between "American Pie" and Woody Allen movies for example. (Not that either of those represent you or I) Actually, I think you and I have in the past even had lighthearted (!) exchanges.
*I don't have anything personal against you or anyone else here..after all we only "know" eachother by our posts and personas here. I'm not sure that's too great of a predictor of how we relate to others in the "real world". As for me, as a female, future doctor on this board, I'm not interested in just rolling over and playing the sex kitten persona that goes over so big on The Lounge and I'm not going to pretend it's a cool or dignified thing (oooo ahhh, my thong! squeal!) The truth is, anyone I meet in real life who is nice to me, I am nice back. But yes indeed, in real life when I someone says something that offends me or is asinine, I say something about it. It's just the kind of person I am. I know that it is unlikely that anyone here would actually talk crudely or behave in a juvenile manner in their professional capacity as med students or doctors.

-truce•••••Here here!

I understand now about the posting location. I don't think Tim exists :)

As for the "always holier than though" I apologize. I just haven't seen you in a long time and the only other post I remember by you was about people irritating others and it ERUPTED in preallo....

Actually, I know a lot of doctors / med students who behave pretty poorly. Especially in urology.

So don't worry..the insanity doesn't stop here :)

Wanna come with me to see the movie? :)

Scooby,
I don't remember the thread of which you speak, but I'll take your word for it...oh wait..the grocery store one? (Shudders just thinking about it)
I hate it when I get on my soapbox and try to be tough as nails and then you have to go and reply and be kind of cute and ingratiating. Just like a pup named Scooby Doo.

of course, on the other hand, not everything in life is a freakin joke.

Wow Scoobs, you're just a few posts away from becoming a "Grand Poobah," and joining the ranks of Dra. Foxy and the like!

I'm looking for:

"Grand Pimpster"

or

"Grand Pimp Daddy"

or

I think the most clever one would be "Great Dane"...but I would rather not have that one :)

You guys can always send me a private message or email me at [email protected].

Anyway this thread, with all its responses, most likely belongs in the Lounge. Sorry quaileggs. If you'd like to post something on the preMD board so that someone there can see it, I suggest you do that and then ask the moderator (heck, I'll do it) to close the thread.
