I'd like some advise...

Has anyone run into the ridiculous problem with Navy bonuses for docs: the scenario goes as follows.

A doc (me) is seperating from the Navy in July 2005. The letter requesting ISP must read that the doc agrees to stay on activie duty until OCTOBER of the following year. Otherwise, no bonus for that last year of active duty.

Has this been an issue for any of the military docs that got out (militarymd, maybe?)...

So far, my bonuses have not been paid for this year, and I hope this done not happen to me. My ISP is a sizable chunk of money (29K) and I do not want to stay in the Navy any longer than I am supposed to (July 2005)

thanks...

My ISP was dated October 1 per the instruction, and my end of obligation was July 1.....There's no way around it. You either give up your last bonus or stick it out an extra 3 months.

It was a no brainer for me.....I gave up my last ISP...it was worth $36,000. I don't know what kind of financial situation you're in, but 36,000 is not worth the extra 3 months for me.

They will prorate the ASP if you are retiring after 20 years, but not the ISP.

You can look into changing the date of your ISP....I know of a couple of people who did it, but they were lifer's (O-6 types) who were able to manipulate the system. The pay office did not help with this issue when I tried.

A lot of people who are getting out is faced with the same situation...my wife included....I believe it is a financial tactic to not pay the last year's ISP.

its interesting you mention it...

when i wrote my ISP letter, I intentionally dated it with my acutal exit date (which is in August)....,not October, as per the insturction. the letter was signed, sealed and delivered by the CO.

What do you think the chances of it getting paid are?

we'll see....

the check's in the mail...right?
right.

so, what are you up to these days?

i have not looked at your profile, but would guess that you know a little more about halothane than i do..

The special pays "techs" at BUMED are somewhat helpful. They are divided alphabetically and I can't find that website. Mine was Karen Gaston ([email protected]). She worked out pro-rating my ASP for my return to residency. Good luck.

Just got out in July and enjoy private practice a lot .....I do agree I probably know more about halothane than you 🙂

My specialty had not been public knowledge...many here think I'm same as you.
