So, back when I filled out my AMCAS app in July, I applied to a bunch of different schools. Most were out of my league, but I digress. Anyway, I didn't send in the secondary app for one of the schools. I was just tired of writing essays and didn't really care for the school. I don't even know why I applied there in the first place. Anyway, I get their rejection letter today stating that since I didn't submit the secondary app, that I've been rejected. Well, that's all well and good, after all, that's what I was expecting since I never sent in a secondary. Anyway, what got me was the last line. It was something to the tune of, this action has been reported to AMCAS. I'm like why the hell does AMCAS even care if I submitted a secondary app or not? Anyone know if this is common?

That is weird. I had originally applied to 14 schools(I've posted #applied=13 on SDN), and I decided not to bother sending a secondary back to Cornell (I would have had a shot getting in there if I cured cancer..but alas...). I never received any message like that from Cornell. It is really funny that these schools are sending threats. Don't worry AMCAS can't even do their thing properly, so I doubt they will be coming after you any time too soon. <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

There was a similar line on one of my rejections. If my recollection is correct, it was Georgetown. Like you, I didn't bother filling out the secondary. I don't think there is much to it. What are they gonna do, take away my other acceptances? I doubt it. Don't sweat it at all man. We'll be ok.

Papa- they're probably just sending AMCAS the info that they rejected you. Our advisors, other med school people and stuff can read our applications at later dates so i'm sure stuff like that goes in there. There was a part in the app about "Release to advisors" where your pre-med officer could see your app. Sounds normal. Lates! --Trek

Maybe they want to give you a refund!

HA HA

AMCAS giving a refund.

They really should after their screw up this year

I think all schools report rejections to AMCAS. Some mention in the letter....most dont. I think their rejection letter would have said it anyway even if you had turned in a secondary. My UNC rejection letter said the same thing.

As I understand it, schools where you are rejected due to not completing the application will inform AMCAS that your application has been "rejected due to inaction." This is merely a bookkeeping thing. Don't sweat.

Papa, thats some funny stuff!!! 😀 😀 Don't worry about this effecting your active files.
