Well after 90 days, I finally got word of my status (over the phone). I am waitlisted at LECOM-Erie. I was told that this is not a ranked waitlist, so I guess that is good. I am going to confirm this waitlist, then I guess they will continue to review my application and compare it to the applicant pool. I don't know if this is good news or not, but let the wait continue.

Holding on to any hope I can. If you have any advice on something I could do that would be great!

I have already sent a thank-you letter and an LOI. So I don't really know where to go from here but wait.

Thanks for always listening.

Keep calling The school to show your interest in going there. also call Dr. wise to tell him about your case he might be able to help.

Good luck.

I am so sorry to hear that... but at least it's not a flat out rejection.
Take it as good news and keep telling the school (at least once a month or so) about how much you want to go there and send them your updated grades and more letters of recommendations from D.O. physicians. We all have been pulling for you and hopefully you will be accepted (and matriculated) at LECOM soon.

I already did. Should I send another???

I'd hold off. I agree to contact the school regularly about the action on the waitlist and send any new information that you get. Sorry you didn't get better news after waiting so long. 🙁

Yeah, I will think about holding off on another LOI I guess... If I keep calling I don't know what to say. I know I can keep checking and get my name out there, but what good does that do when none of those people are in the committee meetings?

I think I will be calling Dr. Wise too.

I don't know about adding more schools. I would maybe want to add PCOM? I don't know as of yet. I think it might be too late for it, with my stats.

Another question, (hopefully my ranting helps others that are in my situation at this/other schools)... I have been searching for similar situations on this website and I see students from years past that were on the waitlist in July. I know that it is entirely possible that I may be on that long, but is there movement for those who get on the waitlist early like me (interviewed in September)?

Will I be in the pool of those who applied/interviewed in February or March? 😕

i dont know how it works at LECOM.but at the other schools i interviewed at (AZCOM, NSUCOM) they said that the alternate list applicants would be reviewed after the deadline for turning in applications..as in they will review your app after they reviewed everyone else's first..therefore it will be past march..most likely by april or may they will start reviewing those on the wait list..sorry to hear the bad news jezz..but all hope is not lost..it is possible that they do not fill all of their seats by the end of the application cycle...keep hope alive 🙂

Elain C. Morse Admissions Coordinator is one of the admission committee. and Dr. wise may be able to help if you show him that you are interested. and ask him about how could you improve your chance?

Yeah, i called about 7 times today lol... She said that it would be reviewed after each review of the interviews during the week. Then when they reach a decision they will contact me. So I suppose waiting until orientation is a possibility.

That is why I think I should do something besides wait. If they review my app every week, I want something new in there for them to know I am interested. That's why I want to send another LOI or maybe a letter like that describing my determination and dedication. Heh, time to think!

like someone said, "ask the right person what can be done to improve your chances for getting off the wait list". This will cut down all the phone calls and help focus your efforts so you may concentrate on other things.

You might try vcom,pscom,wsvom.

Aww, Jezzielin....I think we were all hoping for an acceptance for you. 🙁 After all this crap about not being allowed to tell you anything over the phone.....they tell you over the phone. WTH?

I gotta say, after the attitude of Elaine Morse during interview day and the way they treated you I am really turned off with LECOM-E. Honestly, wouldn't you rather go to a school that works a bit harder to encourage your attendance?

I hope you hear some good news.

I agree with the posters who say to find out what you can do to improve your chances.

just a word of encouragement: i know people who were accepted from the waitlist last year just days before orientation (not me, but i made it this year!). good luck!

Thanks alot! I am still hopeful. I have letters that are being sent out tomorrow to my interviewers basically telling them of my intent, what I have done this semester, and then asking them for advice for what I should do next. More LORs? Another interview? Anything really.

I also have a letter to the dean prepped as well. I am thinking about those extra LORs, but I am going to save that for later.

Gonna keep on truckin'...

I think sending these materials to people OTHER than the Admissions Office is very smart. Dr. Wise will take a look at everything you've been through and if you keep appealing your case, who knows? I don't know what they're playing at, having only Elaine Morse working the entire Admissions Office. That's crazy. She hasn't had much help and she's way behind. Here's a funny story to make you laugh.

1st Week of Nov: call to check status on app. LECOM's reply: "Oh, a decision was made last week (whether I'll get an interview or not) and you should get a letter any day now."
2nd Week of Nov: "You haven't gotten it yet? Our records sow that it went out. No we can't tell you over the phone. It should be there by the end of the week
3rd Week of Nov: "Oh, it looks like your letter has been on the dean's desk for 2 1/2 weeks now. We'll get it out right away
4th Week in Nov: "Well our records show that a decision has not been made whether to grant you an interview or not, but your file will be re-reviewed within two weeks, so be patient."
Finally, I get a letter the 2nd week of Dec. dated Nov 30 inviting me to an interview in Feb. What's that about.

Well, despite the Ad Off fiasco, it's still a really good school and I hope to get accepted this year, and I hope you turn out better on the waitlist than I did last year. Good luck to you! 🙂

I interviewed at lecom last year. got in. but...
My acceptance letter stated that I was admitted to the previous class ('08 not '09)
Acceptance letter was dated prior to my interview.
Also contained a postcard stating that my file was incomplete. Missing letters of reccomendation and transcripts.
Apparently the interview can be just a formality to make sure you are not just there for the free lunch.

You were waitlisted last year? Would you mind posting your stats? Thanks!

Last year, I had a 3.75 GPA, 19Q MCAT, and of course loads of clinical experience and extracurricular activities. Nothing earth shattering, but I felt I may have gotten in had my interview date not been April 29! I didn't apply until February. I got the impression they look at more than straight stats. Good luck

Do you all think that I have an advantage over others since I had such an early interview? Or I am I going to be in the same pool as others?

I just sent out letters to my interviewers, Dr. Wise (I am going to call him too, eventually), Jean Downing (Admissions Counselor), and the Dean. I just woke up today in a panic, because I forgot to add my picture. Grrrr - anyhoo...

Basically the letter talked about how I was grateful to be put on the waitlist (heck, I could have been rejected). Then I talked about why I thought LECOM was perfect for me and vice versa and how it was my #1. And then I asked for advice to get myself off the waitlist and an acceptance. I told them any extra things I did last semester (not too much, but I became a tutor), told them of how I gathered additional LORs if needed and that I could be available to come back for another interview at anytime.

What do ya'll think?

P.S. I might start a new thread for ppl who get waitlisted - like an advice thread. I will attach this. I just don't like seeing the "frown" everytime I see this thread get bumped... I am actually excited and not that sad anymore lol. 🙂

Jezzielin,
you definitely have an advantage, especially with the letters you are sending out. Talking with Dr. Wise will also give you an advantage in my opinion. No one knows how the LECOM waitlist is cracked, as they won't tell you where on the waitlist you are. They do put people in high, medium and low waitlists, so if you interviewed early and you are on the high waitlist, then you should get off. I haven't seen stats (since LECOM doesn't release anything) regarding how many people are on the waitlist or how many people get off, but getting your name out there will only help.
About a waitisted class of 2010 thread, it brings comfort to know many others are in the same situation and much information can be shared. I'm all for it! Keep your head up and keep working on clinical experience and extracurriculars this semester! 🙂

Jezzielin,
Do you mind me asking what your stats and extracurriculars are?
thanks, and good luck!! I hope you get off the waitlist soon

Well, if anyone else is waiting on LECOM, I am pretty sure Elaine is all caught up. I received my acceptance 3 weeks after my interview on 12-9, despite the Christmas break even.

Congratulations on your acceptance!

Did you get your letter on exactly 12/30/05? When was the envelope postmarked/the letter dated? I'm just trying to figure out if the adcom met on that Wednesday after Christmas, 12/28/05.

I got my letter on 12-29. The postmark was 12-28. I'm not sure when the letter itself was dated, though. There were several sheets of paper in the envelope, four or five at least, with all different dates.

How about the date on your official acceptance letter? Not the pathway decision. Which pathway did you get accepted to, by the way?

Eh, mine took over a month. Interviewed there on November, 4th and got my acceptance on Christmas Eve.

I don't know the dates on the letters themselves. I am in the process of unpacking from a move and just go back from vacation....so who knows where anything is right now... 🙄 I remember that all the letters were dated after Christmas. Sorry I'm not more help.

I was accepted to the PBL pathway.

That is hilarious!

Don't get down. I'm at LECOM-B, which is still basically run by the admins at erie. One of my PBL groupmates was on the waitlist, not quite as long as you would be, but she was told that she was admitted the day before orientation, and had to catch a flight the next day. Yeah, it's a pain, but getting in is a great accomplishment, and something worth holding out for. Wish you only the best, and hope all goes well.

P.S. It seems like you're pretty gung-ho for penn, but I would imagine it would be a little easier to get in down here, or the wait list would be shorter(I know for a fact all the seats aren't taken yet, thanks student affairs!) since the school is brand new, and looking to build it's reputation. You just have to be prepared to do PBL, which is quite a system shock.
