What are the best resources for graduating fellows in finding a job? I know word of mouth is often good but what if you live very far from the desired location?

Thoughts on websites? Headhunters? Recruiting companies? etc?

Avoid recruiters. They lie and withhold vital bits of info.

I would contact groups in the area directly and fly out to meet them (hopefully on their dime).

Device reps are going to be
Slightly better than recruiters in terms of finding a good Practice.

Everyone has an agenda though. If one group uses their Product they will steer you that way. If there is a fair group in town that they know is hiring but doesn't use their device, are they going to tell you? Who knows?

In the end it is up to you to do your homework and research the area. Their is no uniformity in this field like in others.

Use all the resources .
The recruiters are free to (you) and despite what the previous poster mentioned there are some good ones out there

some, but why let them take a piece of the pie, a chunk of your money, when you dont need to?

cold call offices that you have done your due diligence on.

talk to your program director and see if there are practices that he knows about.

talk to your other attendings. see if any trained at your current institution.

if anesthesia trained, try gaswork.com.
