I was told by an attending that with the new healthcare reform, mid-level providers particularly NPs will eventually cover most of the generalist office practice especially with the evolution of the ob hospitalist model. the reason being that they have comparable reimbursement and obviously have lower salaries.
Hence most ob/gyns will be out of work unless they sub-specialize in the long term. Is that a possibility? What are your thoughts on this?

It sounds ridiculous. OBGYN will always have a place in medicine and you will have a job. Just be good at what you do and willing to evolve with new practice models. Tell your attending to join the Anesthesiology forum.
