Since John Hopkins is not rolling admission, should we assume they are done with their initial offers and rest of the offers will come after May 15 from waitlist? Are they still sending offers out?

Hi Khan,
I was just recently accepted. It seems like the adcoms have hit their second wind so hold on and good luck!

Rolling admissions seems to be the norm, with decisions made monthly. Those placed on the the ranked wait-list are informed of their postions in April. Being in the top half should lead to optimism. Greatest movement: June-early July.

does anyone know how many people Hopkins waitlists each year? I know they usually accept around 50 or so off the waitlist, but I haven't found any info on how big the entire list is.

I remember Dean White saying that a very "small number" of candidates are rejected post-interview, and that the majority of the initial non-acceptance people are put on the waitlist. I myself have been doomed to wait until April to see how much they like me. 🙁

Dr Chooch - Why April 15 instead of May 15th. I thought they start to give out waitlist after may 15th.

They rank the waitlist sometime in April...so that's what I'm waiting for. I'm not sure when they start taking people off the waitlist, but April will be good because at least we get an idea of where we stand.

I have an interview on Thursday. I would hope they're still making offers--I don' t think they would go to the trouble of interviewing just to fill out the wait lists.

Congrats to sdnsdn on your acceptance! Please e-mail or PM me with any questions you have about Hopkins. It's an awesome place, and I hope you'll come for the revisit weekend.

Viennese waltz, you should smile and pretend it's September. Being interviewed in February means that you're an excellent candidate who'd make a great addition to the class. Don't worry about the rolling admissions bit; several of my classmates were accepted outright after being interviewed late in the season.

To the OP, be careful. Some people around these parts are touchy about the pesky "s" in our name, and you won't improve your chances of admission by calling our institution "John Hopkins."

To clarify, Hopkins is usually done interviewing by mid-March, and presumably most applicants would be notified a few weeks in advance of their interview date. So, don't give up hope quite yet.

For those of you who have been waitlisted, start writing letters. Update the adcom on your grades and accomplishments, and do your best to express your interest, since this may impact how you're ranked on the big list. The waiting list is divided into thirds, and typically applicants in the upper third have a reasonable chance of being admitted. You'll be informed (probably in April) of which third you're in. This is decided in April so any vacancies on May 16 can be filled ASAP. The size of the list varies from year to year, based on the number of accepted students who decide to come to Hopkins.

Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement, doepug. I wasn't expecting to like Hopkins as much as some of my other interview schools, but I was blown away. I loved it. I will try to control the butterflies until March ... good luck to other people waiting to hear.

I got my phone call Friday afternoon. I guess February interviews CAN get in outright. Once I get the offer in writing, I can't wait to withdraw from U Chicago's alternate pool.

Does JHU send out all their rejections, including preinterview rejections at the end?

Congradulation VienneseWaltz!

I'm a Feb interview too but haven't heard anything

doepug and sdnsdn--How long after your phone call did you get the acceptance letter? I got my call Friday but haven't received anything in writing. I would like to release several acceptances at other schools, but I want the official letter in hand first. (And there's the tiny voice saying, "Did they call you by mistake?" 🙄 ) Thanks. vw

vw,

I honestly don't remember when my letter came. If another week goes by and you haven't gotten it, call the admissions office. They can send you another or fax one your way. Don't worry... I'm quite certain they didn't call by mistake. 🙂

My letter came a few days ago (whew!) Judging by my showing at Duke and Penn, it occurs to me that JHU might HAVE goofed, but there's nothing they can do about it now! Mwuhahahahaha! Just kidding ... I'm really excited about Hopkins, and still in shock a little bit ...

has anyone else heard from jhu?...i haven't gotten anything yet and interviewed in Jan..

I haven't heard anything from JHU either & I interviewed toward the end of February. I think all their decisions should be out soon though.

Hi all,

I'm considering applying to JH this fall and was curious if taking the August MCAT puts one at a significant disadvantage in JH's admissions process.

Thanks.

I turned in my secondary in early August (took the MCAT in 2001) and still didn't get an invitation until mid-January, so I'm not sure it matters that much. There were several August MCATers in my interview group in February and JHU still had spots available then. If you will do significantly better on the MCAT in August than April, you are probably better off going with August.

Just got a waitlist today. I think I'll reply with an update...

Good luck everyone who is still waiting for a response!

btw, I interviewed early Feb.

has any one else heard from jhu post interview lately. I interiewed at the end of feb and they said we would hear by the end of march. i havent heard anything yet and was just wondering if most other people have.

Congrats on the JHU acceptance, I've been following your progress and you're one of the sweeter posters here. Congrats and the game is over for you now! Don't forget to post on the "Acceptances you have TURNED down" thread.

I myself can't wait to post on that thread, May 15 cannot come soon enough, I think I'm on another 2 waitlists, to toal 4 now...I can't celebrate yet, even though I want to.🙁

Does anyone know when Hopkins sends out the waitlist ranking? I know it's sometime in April, but does anyone have an idea of when exactly? 😕

 Awww, shucks. Thanks, Lab-Rat. I posted on that thread a while back. I am still holding a Pitt acceptance until they make a decision on the scholarships, but it's definitely looking like Hopkins for now ...

It's going to be so exciting watching everyone get in when the WLs start moving.

I had a regional interview last week--anyone else have one of those?

The assistant dean called me about a month ago to set it up. Didn't request or anything. Thought it was kinda strange. Much easier though. Met at Borders, got to wear jeans. 🙂
