I graduated high school and began to volunteer at a local hospitals emergency room. Everything was going good until they notified me that I was signing in on the wrong sheet. I guess I had been signing in on the regular volunteer sheet instead of the Jr. But I was told to sign in on the regular one as I was not in the student program no longer. Anyways the director called me and told me to start signing in on the Jr. and not to go into the reg Er. All students must go to fastcare instead. Im confused because I am doing this not only to learn but also for medical school. Can I put Jr volunteer hours on my application? Thanks for any responses.

i don't recognize the distinction between jr. and regular volunteer--it must be specific to your hospital--and i doubt most adcoms would either. are you doing medically-related volunteering? if yes, i wouldn't worry about splitting hairs: just call yourself "hospital (or e.r., or whatever) volunteer" without a qualifier on your amcas, describe the nature of your volunteer work honestly, and don't worry about it.

Yes, you can put junior volunteer hours on your application. I don't think the distinction matters at all.

Thanks so much for both of your answers. It helped me a lot.

Jr. Volunteer means you are under 18. If you are 18 or over, you should be upgraded to adult volunteer status.

The title is irrelevant----volunteer hours are volunteer hours.
