We have everyone from moms and dads, career changers, to undergrads, and even the occasional high school kiddies. So I was just wondering, how did you all come across SDN? Googling something nerdy, referal from a friend, what?

Me, I was out of college already and Yahoo searching post-bac programs.

Spill your beans.

I was Googling medical school admissions and came across some random website that talked about SDN. At the same instant I had been planning a hostile takeover of some pre-med forum somewhere in cyberland. It was a perfect combination, like chocolate and peanut butter.

Someone mentioned it at the e-mcat.com forums that I read while I was studying for the MCAT. I'm glad I didn't bother to visit SDN until after the MCAT. I would have wasted way too much time here instead of studying.

the URL was carved into the wall of a Denny's bathroom.

Kaplan instructor who gave back our practice MCAT scores.
She's at Pitt now.

Finding SDN actually directed me TO medicine, not the other way around.

Really?? 😱 SDN would've made me run far from medicine if I had not already made up my mind.

ok i keep thinking the guy in your avatar is you

is it?....eeek! plz dont hurt me...

I went to my OSU interview and forgot my picture to go with my application. A girl that interviewed with me said she almost forgot, but she was reminded by someone on SDN. The rest is history.

I was already done with my secondaries when I found SDN. I got an interview invite from Tulane right before Katrina, but after the storm I didn't know whether it was still valid or not. A friend of mine linked me to a post on the SDN forums made by their Dean of Admissions regarding the process after Katrina, and I started browsing the rest of the site...

I think I was googling something about medical school and found a link to SDN.

To ease your mind, just imagine instead that I'm that little SDN angel under the mohawk guy.

i was desperately trying to find info about interviews ahead of my first one. googled and came up with the interview feedback page... best page ever.

Waiting at an interview actually (I believe it was U of Iowa...circa 2004), and we started chatting it up. Some girl from california talked about SDN and MDapplicants....so i thought "what the hell??"

Mostly came here for the interview feedback, and then i found the forums.

I was googling for a Finnish med student forum (should've known it was completely in vain...). Had to settle for this 😉.

One of my classmates at school told me about it. He was practically addicted to it and started his sentences, "on studentdoctor...." hehehe. I signed up but couldn't figure out how to use the forums or what to look for but one year later, right before the MCAT scores came out I came back on here and have never left!

googled med school interviews. was invaluable.

My pre-med advisor told me about it. I had questions about the application process (<----not a science major so not a lot of pre-med friends going through the process with me), and she told me this would be a great place to check things out. She never mentioned how addictive it was, though. 😍

I was looking around on my school's pre-med website and there was a link to the interview feedback portion of the sight.

But then I found the forums...I now refer to SDN as "the crackpipe" to my friends and family.

A post-bac pre-med friend of mine reluctantly confessed her addiction to SDN one night at the local watering hole. Now my s.o. refers to it as "your little friends." Beer is the gateway drug! :hardy:

My gosh it's been so long I don't remember. Let's see I think I was on my school's AMSA website or something like that. There was a link there.

I don't know about other people here but I am really glad I found out about SDN AFTER undergraduate and after I decided I wanted to go into medicine.

How I found it? Random surfing.

i think i was trying to figure out if i should study from examkrackers or my princeton review books.. at first i thought it was actually med students posting their expert opinions, not just a bunch of other neurotic premeds

When I was first really seriously considering going into medicine I did a bunch of google searches for post-bac programs, MCAT, required courses, medical school advice, etc etc, and kept coming up with SDN links. The people here have been my pre-med advisors ever since. 😀

I googled some question about pre-recs and SDN came up.

I get totally addicted for a few weeks and then don't come back for a month - it's weird.

I don't remember for sure -- I was probably doing a search on Yahoo or Google for something about preparing for the MCAT and med school admissions.

It was so long ago...I think I must have been doing random searches for how to get into med school and must have stumbled along SDN. 😎

i was searching for info on the mcat the night scores were coming out...about midnight-ish...and thus the addiction began.

i think i found sdn while searching for info/guidelines during one of my obsessive PS writing periods this past summer

Googling to try and find out exactly when my MCAT score would be available . . . in October of 2004.

*I realize this is a 4 year bump, but I was going to create this thread anyway and since it exists already and in the interest of conserving threads/chaos, lets just add on to this one*

I have to wonder, do a lot of people tell their friends about SDN? Their pre-med friends? Although it seems gunner-ish, I feel like more people would be well prepared if they read the site, and that because of that a lot of pre-meds are secretive about it. Just my guess though.

I eliminate the competition by keeping SDN a secret
and I am never, ever sick at sea.

Found SDN somehow 2 years ago. Can't remember the exact path to here but probably an Internet search related to med school admissions or the MCAT. I am an older, career changing nontrad and very glad I found SDN since I don't have a pre med advisor or have contact in my "real life" with others applying to med school.

Was so frustrated getting mixed information on med school and what they wanted. Guy in my class recommend sdn and here I am. Surfed around for almost a year before I joined.
