Hi all 🙂! This is my first post, but I need some advice. There are few people to ask where I attend college (predominatly business majors) in MO, so forgive me if I seem to write a book. I currently am a junior, but I am staying another year in undergrad. I will be applying for the entering class in Fall '11

The Numbers

-GPA is abysmal, but if I keep up the +3.7 upward trend that I have over the next four semester, it will be about ~3.6 sGPA and 3.5 cGPA
Microbiology/Biochemistry Double Major Might minor in Computer Sciences.
-Taking the MCAT this May when I have completed the recommended courses. Confident that I can get at least +34 with the prep I am planning to do.

Health Related ECs

-NA on a Cardiac Floor working weekend nights 😴.
-Just started volunteering in the ER of another local hospital in late July
-Summer internship shadowing 12hrs/week for 8 weeks of doctors in different subspecialties in Neurology this past summer.

Other ECs

-Starting Research on Immunology in the spring
-Must do research over a topic in Biochemistry for major.
-Community Service Chair for social Greek Fraternity. Leadership awards given from national HQ, and national conferences attended for fraternity and Greek life.
-Student Gov. Senator-Head of a project and author of a proposal to use student funds for university project. This particular type of proposal had to be passed by the governing body, the Board of Governors, and the Student Gov.
-Pre-med Club
-Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society
-American Society of Microbiology
-On/Off volunteer for Habitat for Humanity building homes for the underpriveleged (making this more regular occurence).
-Various other volunteer work

Other than the big what-if (MCAT), do you have any suggestions for me? Thanks in advance!

For someone with no advisors, you seem to have a very clear idea of what is needed to successfully apply to medical school. I have no suggestions (a rare occurance). Keep up the good work!

And you just decided to go to med school?

My only advice would be to not "Estimate" what you could do on the MCAT. I have friends who I thought would do really well and they completely sucked...and friends who I thought would be lucky to break 25 and they got in the top 95%.

You obviously have a clear idea of what you need to do...just work on the GPA and make sure it is as good as it can be.

My advice for MCAT (just to get into **A** school...not top schools or "Dream" schools)
4.0gpa 30+
3.8gpa 31+
3.7gpa 32+
3.6gpa 33+
3.5 gpa 33+
3.4 gpa 34+
3.3 gpa 35+
3.0-3.2gpa 36+ (with good EC's and research)
less than 3.0gpa, 36+ (with good EC's, research, and regular prayer to whatever God you worship...although a heafty donation to the school would actually do a lot more)

All kidding aside you seem like you are on top of things good luck in the future

I think your chart is a little harsh. From what I've seen, 3.4 30+ with good ECs gives you a good shot at **A** school. Averages for matriculants are 3.6, 30.6 MCAT, correct? So I don't understand where you're getting how you need a 33+ MCAT with a 3.6 or 3.5
