Here is an email from my advisor on the issue of whether or not to send your school list along with your printed AMCAS. DJ W.R.

SCHOOL DESIGNATION LIST

For those applying early to schools, i.e. applying to med schools before AMCAS application arrives by sending a paper version of AMCAS and other materials (mainly schools with automatic secondaries):

There have been a number of questions about whether or not to send the School Designation List and the answer is no, you don't need to do this as the information is considered confidential:

1) AMCAS says "...The medical schools that have made the decision to ask for application
print-outs were likely unfamiliar with the contents of the printed application (which was designed to help applicants review their application data), and most likely did not intend to receive information not normally forwarded to medical schools, such as each applicant's list
of designated medical schools. We ask that you remind your applicants that AMCAS considers such information confidential, and that they should remove this information prior to sending their application print-outs to these schools." (AMCAS Director)

2) Tulane says: "Tulane is one of the schools that has offered applicants a temporary method of applying while the "bugs" with AMCAS are worked out...We do not require students to send the Designated School page to us. A number of students have done so, but this will have no effect whatsoever with any decision about their application. Similarly, those who do not
send the page to us (and this is the vast majority) do not, in any way, hurt or help their application. This is a non-issue as far as I am concerned." (Assoc. Dean for Admissions)

3) Medical College of Wisconsin says: "The designated school form is the only place on the AMCAS application that describes what program the applicant is applying for - Early Decision, Regular M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. We are requesting the designated school page for this reason. Applicants should feel free to white out or block the other school names on the form."
(Director of Admissions)
