Hi, all of you future Wildcats!

I know a bunch of you still have yet to make your final decisions, but wanted to let you all know that I'm in the market for a roommate. I live about 5 minutes from the school (1.5-2 miles) in a 3-bedroom 1.5-bath apartment with washer/dryer/dishwasher. I have a three-legged cat who is the sweetest thing ever, but can't have any more pets. 🙁 All three bedrooms are the same size--pretty big!

My current roommate wants to try living alone. Our current set-up is to share the third bedroom as a study/office and it works really well. Thus, I'm looking for one roommate, not two.

If you might be interested, please PM me! It's available August 1 or as a sublease June 1 or after. Thanks!

Aw, she's moving out? 🙁

Yeah, she is. 🙁 I'm very sad! But when we were talking about living together last spring, she was torn between having a roommate vs. living by herself...so now she wants to try living on her own and seeing what it's like.

Very sad! Good thing we'll still be together for ten hours a day. 😉

I'm looking to rent a house w/ my boyfriend. I would prefer to have first year vet students as roomates as well. So maybe a 2 or 3 bedroom place preferably w/ 2 bathrooms.. Please let me know if anyone is interested. Im not bringing any pets but would like a dog in the house 😛 I'm very easy to live with!! Looking forward to Kansas!! Woo Hoo!! Let me know if anyone wants more info.

Anyone have any thoughts on Jardine apartments or college park? Going to be a irst year student trying to get some feedback.

I know at the pizza party they had on the weekend of interviews one of the students mentioned he lived at Jardine and he thought it was great especially the location. However, he said they do not allow pets.

I pass by them every day, and they look very nice from the outside. Haven't been inside them myself. Heard they are nice, but that they are supposedly starting to let some undergrads in, because rent is $$ and they're possibly having issues filling the apartments. That's rumor I heard - not sure if it's true.

Last I had known (mid-summer) - they only allow fish tanks and no other pets.

Are the Jardine apartments the ones directly across the street from the vet school? I'm looking for a place and roommate for next year, any suggestions from current KSU vet students? Thanks! 🙂

Regarding Jardine Apartments, they are very close to the vet school and therefore very convenient. For those of you who hate to cook, you can also be a Jardine resident and still have a meal plan for the dining halls, although I'm not sure how economical that would be. Be aware that there are three "levels" of Jardine apartments: new construction (really nice, but the most expensive), renovated (old construction dating back to the sixties, ugly exteriors but with the apartment interiors renovated, less expensive) and traditional (sixties construction, ugly exteriors, not renovated inside, livable, but not very nice, and least expensive). As I understand it, K-State's master plan for the complex is to eventually demolish all of the sixties units and replace them with new construction. When that is done, Jardine will be just about as nice as anything available off-campus.

Hi, guys,

I was in a Jardine apartment for the first time last week, and it was beautiful!!! Absolutely gorgeous, with a balcony and everything. (This was one of the new ones.) The new ones are apparently likely to be still available, as their price and no-pet policy make them a bit less attractive for those reasons. Yes, these are the apartments right across the street from the vet school. The old units are likely almost all spoken for for next year, but it might be worth a call!

As for College Park, I asked my roommate (who went to undergrad here) and she said it's notoriously a party-central type of apartment complex... 🙁 I've never been over there, though. Good luck! :luck:

Thought I'd revive this thread, since I for one am once again looking for a roommate! I'm just cutting and pasting from above, since I'm still in the same apartment...my roommate is graduating (congrats and yet sad!) and so I need another one. 🙂

Hi Alliecat. Thanks for starting this thread. I've been needing to find out this information. Unfortunately I will bringing a cat (who hates other cats) and my birds with me, so I couldn't be your roommate. That's actually why I'll probably end up getting my own place. It's just too much hassle to try to move my pets into a place with other animals. Anyway, I was wondering if any current students could give me advice on where to look and what average costs are in Manhattan. Thanks! Can't wait to go to Kansas!

This is a good start for all those newly accepted to K-State 🙂 (congratulations!)

I, too, am looking for roommates. I'm looking for two female roommates, starting this summer (the start month is flexible - one year lease), for my house which is just under 1 mile from school (close to vet-med complex, the rec center and the football stadium). I do have a posting on the KSU CVM "roommates wanted" page.

I have a dog and cat - both very friendly and well behaved. I'd prefer no other pets, but will consider on a case-by-case basis.

If anyone's interested, feel free to PM me to pick my brain!

I didn't even see that page when I was looking at the CVM website last night, Cookie. Thanks for posting it!

And here's where the RA in me comes out. If anyone is seriously looking at Jardine, I'd like to warn you that the complex only has a small number of 2 bedroom apartments left. It also has many more undergraduates for this next year than it has had in years past.

But Jardine is basically dorms in apartment-form, except you have to cook your own food. The Denison neighborhood is really close to the vet school, but I can't get into the RSVP system to see what's available there anymore.

I'm just starting to look at apartments and houses as I'm still waiting on one school, but finding someplace that will take in two bunnies and maybe a kitty is looking to be a bit more difficult than originally thought. 🙁

Try www.themercury.com classifieds too.

Private houses/duplexes rented out by a landlord are much more likely to allow pets or decide on a case by case basis than some of the big apartment complexes owned by companies that just say no outright. Even if the ad doesn't mention pets at all, its worth a try to call and ask and mention that you are a responsible vet student...

Believe me, try going through the housing search with four ferrets...

I might also suggest looking at Craigslist. http://ksu.craigslist.org/apa/ I haven't looked too extensively at the Manhattan housing but I had some luck finding housing on Craigslist in Gainesville. A lot of the houses on there will be more likely to take pets than huge complexes like Jardine.

Thought I'd revive this thread since we all may be looking for housing...or scrambling, as in my case. Does anyone currently in Manhattan have advice for good or bad areas to look for apts? I'd like a 1 bdroom thats away from undergrads 🙂 since I'm an old lady. How far is Junction City? What about Ogden?
