I was wondering if the AAMC verbal passages Kaplan has are realistic of the real MCAT verbal passages? I know they are like from 1990, but I was wondering if they are similar to the real thing? I heard all the AAMC stuff Kaplan has is alot easier than the real thing, and Kaplan gives it to its students to "boost their confidence."
Thanks

my kaplan instructor recently told us that the AAMC practice passages from Kaplan are not reflective of real AAMC passages...he recommends using those passages as content review and NOT as actual practice for the MCAT...

I've worked through about a third of the verbal reasoning passages published by Kaplan and all (as in every single one) of the AAMC verbal passages from the 1990 practice passages through AAMC practice tests I, II, IIIR, IVR, VR, and VIR.

This is gonna be hard for me to put in words, but the reasoning behind correct answers in the Kaplan passages is at times at odds with the reasoning behind correct answers in the AAMC passages. The people who write for the two, different companies just don't think alike. You're better off learning to think like the guy who writes for AAMC!!!

Like I said, hard for me to put in words, but about two weeks before the exam, I stopped looking at Kaplan's verbal all together and delved into the AAMC material... It's SO much better!

Last march, most of us agreed that the actual mcat verbal was significantly more dificult than the practice aamc exams.

Exactly. You should at least do the AAMC full-length tests 3-6. If your instructor is telling you that these are not reflective of the real MCAT, he/she does not know what they are talking about.
