Do you think this is true?

For the uninformed:

Kaplan tells us that the highest score on each section you ever scored will be about the grade you get on the test. Do you guys think this is a valid assumption?

I hope so! I don't think it is generally true, though. There are quite a few posters here who scored lower on the real thing than they did on their practice tests.

No, that isn't what Kaplan says. Kaplan says that you are CAPABLE of scoring as high on each section of the real test as you scored on your practice test sections, not that you WILL do so. The truth of their actual assertion is only as good as the reliability of Kaplan's tests to the real MCAT. So it isn't a perfect correlation, but there's probably SOME truth to it. The truth of YOUR assertion is probably nil. You're better off looking at your average scores on each section, not just the top one.

My opinion (not speaking for Kaplan here) is that the AAMC tests are better predictors. Kaplan's PS in particular is way more calculation-intensive than the real MCAT PS. I should add to the previous post about taking the average that you need several exams, like maybe half a dozen, if you want to try to predict where you're at. But even then, your prediction isn't always right. Based on my average practice test scores, I should have scored about five points lower than I did on the real test. 😎

haha that 5 point thing happens to me too (btw what do you think got you the 5 point boost??)!! ive been scoring fairly consistent on the kaplan ones, around a 28-30. ive been scoring around a 30-33 on the aamc ones (33 for both 7r and 8r).. i certainly hope that i score around 32-33 (37-38 would be nice too 😀) on the real test!!

I don't know. I think it helped that I stopped studying for several weeks before the test. I was really burning out toward the end, and my scores were actually going down. I took five practice tests, and my highest score was on the third, while my lowest was on the fifth. Go figure. 😛 The day of the test, I was definitely (to use the sappy Kaplan lingo) "in the zone." I just felt really, really good during the test about how I was doing, whether I knew the answers to questions, etc. I never felt that good during any practice test, but all I can say is that I'm glad when it finally happened for me that it happened on the real test. My weakest section is PS, and I was actually excited about how "easy" that section seemed during the test. I guess it WAS easy, compared to the Kaplan PS. 🙄

What is this "best score principle" that Kaplan mentions in the back of their lesson book?

Yes, today is a day of relaxation for me too. I know I have a tough week ahead (exams) so I am enjoying my last day off.
