Just to get the full picture of where I really stand....I took the DAT last year in December w/ lame results. I ranked in the 52% overall (AA=17,TS=16,PA=17.....Figured that I could do it on natural ability......I studied for 3 days). Obviously, I didn't get in but did manage an interveiw at my school of choice, UT Memphis. I have an overall GPA of 3.23 and a science GPA of 3.13. The lowest score I made in undergrad was a D in OChem1.....got an A the second time around. I graduated in May w/ a B.A. in Psychology (big mistake looking back...wish I had stuck to science). With my stats in mind you can see why I need to make at least a solid 20. My application is already at Memphis and since I have already interveiwed they told me that I could be considered before the December 1st acceptance deadline.

I am scheduled to take the DAT for the second time on Nov. 15. I have been focusing on science exclusively. I used Kaplan online as a systematic study schedule w/ schuam's books and my old text books for supplement. Also I have just started my ACEtheDAT regiment. I expected to perform a lot better then I actually did on these tests. Take a look and let me hear your predictions......also is AcetheDAT gonna be the best material for PAT reveiw or do I need my girlfriend to bust out the protracter w/straight edge and make me some tiny angles.

Kaplan Final......
AA=18.2
TS=17.7
Bio=21
GChem=14 (the test malfunctioned on several questions....no graphs or tables shown that were required for questions)
OChem=17
RC=19
QR=18
PA=23 (worthless)

Kaplan Practice DAT.......
AA=20.0
TS=17.0
Bio=17 (I know that Kaplan isn't enough to prepare me for Bio but does that mean that this score isn't realistic b/c they ask me questions that weren't covered by the course.....maybe they do that to make it more realist??????Besides, I made a 16 on the Bio section on the real DAT last year w/out ever having learned human anatomy at all b/c I never took those classes.)
GChem=17
OChem=17
RC=22
QR=21
PA=22 (even more worthless)

Let me know where you think I stand......I am scared as hell after reading the forums on hear.......Some people say the the real DAT is a lot easier for chemistry but the others that I have read said that they did the same and even worse. The AA means nothing to me because the PAT averages into that 20.0 and I know from experience how much harder the real PAT is going to be. Honestly....I feel that this is pretty bad considering how long I have been studying for(almost three months), guess I'll try to mix practice tests with content reveiw for the rest of the week.

By the way....for those of you who have taken the real DAT and Kaplan's, I would love it if you could post the results together in a comparison. Also....I really need to know the difference in scores for Biology. If it isn't going to increase than I may be in trouble. If you have an opinion than post it.....reasurement and criticism are both potent motivating factors for me.
Thanks for atleast reading

I noticed that this forum is getting more traffic than the DAT specific one....figured I could reach more test veterans on this one. 👍

___PAT QR RC BIO gC oC TS AA
Kap 24 21 21 16 16 18 16 19
TS2 24 20 23 19 18 20 20 20
Real 21 29 22 20 23 25 21 24

After my Kaplan final I spent about one and a half weeks with topscore before the actual exam, so 16's on the kaplan exam certainly aren't the end of the world. I'm also pretty sure that the AA does not incorporate your PAT score.

Be sure to use the last few days to brush up on each subject, so you're not disappointed with a score you thought would be cake. I hadn't looked at sciences for four or five days before my kaplan final, and got burnt a little bit, but at least it wasn't the real thing and I breezed through every portion equally during the home stretch.

Hope that helps, as long as you don't allow stress to get the better of you on test day, I think you'll find the exam to be considerably easier to manage than most practice exams. Best of luck.

Unfortunately for me, I did worse on actual DAT than on Kaplan finals (I probably took 10 Kap. tests before the actual thing). PAT was a nightmare. Don't even waste your time one angles -- might me better just to guess on it. Bio was not bad, however, if you only study Kaplan (as I did) this is nearly not enough...lots of taxonomy and just very small stuff. Ochem and gen chem was easier on the actual test, for sure. What else? Reading...you either can read or you cannot...Math? I suck in math. Did just as bad on the test as on the pracitce exams...
So, there it is. Sorry if it is not very encouraging. I am just being honest about it. I think if you studied for 3 months now, all you can really do is to calm down on test day and do as best as you can.
Good luck

P.S. On Kaplan practice exams I was scoring 3-4 points higher than on my actuall test. Pissed. I guess I just don't do well under pressure. 😡

I went up from an 18 on Kaplan to a 21 on the real thing. It really depends on how well you concentrate on the exam. Make sure you check your answers, I wasn't checking my practices. And when I practiced, I went up 3 points. 👍

i went down on the PAT and up in the science sections (though i was getting like 12s and 14s on the practice exams), but in general i was kind of disappointed....i think the importance of something like KAPLAN is it gets you practicing A LOT, which is good.

good luck and don't worry to much, just focus on your goal

I found that my all my actual DAT scores went up from the kaplan scores except for PAT which dropped two points. Some of the kaplan science sections are pretty damn hard. I found that the more full length kaplan practice tests you do, the better off you are. It gets your body and mind prepared to sit in front of a computer for the whole test when judgement day rolls around.

I would expect a 19/20 for you on the AA which is the most important score, usually 1 or 2 higher especially if you cramm from now until the 15th Who knows though. Eat your wheaties before you go and take it

my kaplan scores averaged out to 16/17/19

my dat scores were 20/20/19

one word for you: CHILL

Kaplan Final Scores: 19AA/18TS/18PA
DAT: 23AA/23AA/22PA

I busted ass studying though. u can 2!

I kind of wonder if this should go in the DAT threads, but anyway...

My Kaplan scores were usually around 18 and 19 across the board for the course.

Real thing: 23AA/24TS/21PA

My point: if you take the Kaplan course and bust your butt, you can really improve. I was a total loser and spent spring break studying for the DAT last year. Lame? Yes! Effective? Yes!

Spring Break will be twice as crazy this year, I'm hoping.

Please don't underestimate the fact that the PAT is so much harder on the actual thing. I wanted to stand up leave the room laughing when I saw angle ranking on the real thing.

Kaplan AA17.5 18 19.1/ TS 17.4 16 17.4/ GC 18 14 18/ OC 20 18 20/ Bio 15 16 15/ RC 17 15 19/ QR 20 22 21/ PAT 24 25 23
DAT AA 20/ TS 19/ GC 20/ OC 24/ Bio 17/ RC 18/ QR 19
I don't know how much this will help, but i didn't use or even know that anything else existed. I studied a couple hours a day for almost a month. I think Kaplan helped mostly because in made me familiar with the DAT. I thought PAT was easier on the DAT execpt for angle ranking (I didn't know it could be so hard)

The real DAT is so much easier. I dont have the specifics on each test, but I went up about 2 points, if not more in the science sections. The math is basically luck, I scored 22 on math in kaplan. I got some hard questions on the real exam and got a 20 on qr.

Thanks for all of the replies guys.......I do fell a lot better. For a minute there it just seemed like all of that work was going to land me in the middle again... +pity+ +pissed+

Thanks again

My AA score went up by four points from Kaplan's tests; my science scores even more. So long as you've covered all of their material and have mastered it, you'll be fine. Their tests tend to be split across different subjects without repeating a lot of information. It's rare that someone scores lower on the real thing than what they consistently score on their Kaplan AAs, from what I've seen.

Good Job honey! 🙂
