I still haven't fixed my hail damage from last year so the hail we got didn't bother me too much! For some reason the storm line went exactly north and south of our town the other night. We just got a good thunderstorm.noelleruckman said:haha, good idea. Actually, I'm guessing the reason someone asked is cuz we had some tornados go through yesterday. Although the sirens went off where I live, I saw nothing more than rain. I haven't heard about a lot of damage though, so I'm guessing there wasn't much.
nrddct said:Ambernikel, so hail damage is inevitable? I have a old BMW I that I love. Since I'm living at CT theres no garage parking...not even a place to wash my car; Shocking!! Can you tell I'm a car guy? 😉 I guess its not advisable to bring a nice car if its gonna stay outside?
noelleruckman said:I wouldn't call hail damage inevitable. I've never had hail damage to my cars and we park outside. Just get comprehensive insurance. That covers hail damage. I actually wish I'd get bad hail damage. Then I could get other things cleaned up on my car for free 😉 Then again, if someone stole it, I could get it replaced. Maybe I should start leaving the key in it, unlocked. j/k
Raven Feather said:I'm actually from the Midwest too-but in Northern Indiana. I've seen small twisters above the Lake (Lake Michigan). There is a myth around here that there is a low probability of getting hit by one because of the Lake--don't know how true that is. We've had our share of thunderstorms, high winds, hail and all that but we have not been hit my a tornado in my life time. The winter here sucks BIG TIME, sub-zero temperatures, lots of lake effect snow, it can get pretty nasty. I hate knee deep snow!! From what I understand, in general, I should not have to endure this in KC--is that true?

I am from KC (southern johnson county), so if anyone has questions about where to live, feel free to ask.
I lived in KC when I was single and now that I am married, so I have seen both ends of possible living locations!
Thanks!

I love OMM and KCUMB, but am a bit scared to choose KCUMB in case I should choose to go into reconstructive surgery... (may do primary care, may do reconstructive surgery or may change my mind completely 😛 )
Anyone have any thoughts?
nrddct said:Another question I have.
For you out of staters with cars. Are ya'll gonna register your cars in missouri or how will that work?
Raven Feather said:I was wondering the same thing. Also, don't we out-of-staters get like 6 mos on our out-of-state drivers licenses before we have to get MO ones?
ambernikel said:I think so. But if you are a student you don't necessarily become a Missouri resident, do you? I may be mistaken but I believe you can still keep your out of state tags as long as you claim Missouri as a temporary residence while you are a student.
docmd2010 said:i believe that is the case. in undergrad i have lots of friends that are o-u-s and kept there same license plates. i don't think that it is a very important issue. i agree with amber though that you need to indicate that mo is your temporary state.
on a different note, where are you living amber? i think i'm gonna live in ct, don't really feel like commuting and want to be around other med students.

Raven Feather said:Sorry if this sounds silly, but I was born and raised in Indiana, who do I claim temporary residence to--the Bureau of Motor vehicles?
blacklabmom said:Hello,
I have to take a genetics course before August! I have found a couple, but I work full-time and I dont really have the money to quit 2 months before schools starts (since we dont we our fin aid until Aug!!!).
I was just curious if KCUMB has let anyone substitute another course? I am looking at Cell and Molec Bio at JCCC. It will be 4 nights a week of class/lab, but at least I can keep working!
Thanks!

nrddct said:I also have to take genetics. But just curious why your gonna choose work over a course requirement for med school. Do you have a family to support?
nrddct said:I wish I had known about the online course. 🙁 I'm currently taking genetics at a community college which is a borefest. I guess I should've asked more questions beforehand.
Sorry when you said you were working full time, I assumed it was at the GAP or something. Are you in pharm sales or clinical trials? I"m currently interning at a clinical trials site. Pretty interesting, aside from all the paper work. 🙂[/Q
No need to say sorry! No big deal at all! Everyone has different circumstances!
You were smart to take it at a community college this semester! I wasnt accepted until a few weeks ago, I didnt want to take an extra class until I knew about school! (of course looking back now, I should have taken it)
I work for a CRO and I manage clinical research trials. I was in the lab for several years, but now I manage the study from a project/business stand point! Some days are great and some not so good (like any job!).
We will have to meet up at orientation and talk pharmaceuticals! It is never boring!
Good luck with genetics!

thats really cool. I spend the majority of my time filling out SAE report forms. Things are picking up here lately so I actually get to enroll some patients and see them through the studies. Were you ever a research coordinator? If so I have to ask you about electronic data capture compared to paper since thats what my thesis project is about. 🙂

I wasn't, but I just went through a week training on edc and from this point on all of my new studies will be with edc (of course the old ones will use the same software, but setup for a paper study!)
Feel free to ask. Or give me your email address. I can always ask the CRAs that I manage questions too.
Thanks

nrddct said:hey, I'm not blackmomlab but I'll answer your question. They should tell you if you fullfill all the requirements in your acceptance letter.
BTW how many of you have framed your acceptance letter?
ambernikel said:I had planned on it but it's actually kind of wrinkled from me carrying it EVERYWHERE with me for the first few days. I showed everyone!!!![]()
But I would like to frame it.
noelleruckman said:Well, guys, I'm giving up my seat and going to KU. Good luck!
I don't think they have insurance directly through the school, but I do think they have a "contract" with a private company like State Farm or something. If I remember right, he/she should be on campus during orientation.AmyO said:Hey guys! Do you know if KCUMB offers a group plan for us single medical students that need health insurance or do we have to find our own plan? I e-mailed someone at KCUMB, but haven't heard yet. 🙂 Excited for August!!!
