can a podiatrist be both a physician and a surgeon? is it because of the residency training that they received (medicine as intern and surgical in later years)?

am I missing something?

Ya I am curious about this too as I am interested in the profession.

From what I understand though, Podiatrists can be both with the new standardized three year surgical residency. So perhaps recently finished podiatrists can be physicians assessing the foot, as well as being a surgeon when surgery is needed.

Anyhow I think podiatrists can be both and depends on what they feel like doing.

Someone correct me as I only found out about this profession a few days ago.
