I heard this is a jock major. Is it true? Is it regarded as a joke major? I'm looking into it as a major for undergrad, then going into medical or podiatry school. Is that a wise choice?

Jock major???

And no I do not think it is a joke, but focuses more on muscles and physical activity then, biology, chemistry and such. It is fine to major in it if you would like, as long as you do all of your pre-requesites. Look into other stuff if you want. I believe some universities allow podiatry majors too.

Yea I heard that most of the majors are collegiate athletes, and that it is an easy major. I never heard of a podiatry major...at all

Collegiate athletes do it because it involves taking a lot of physical education, nutrition, and basically anything related sports classes. Really? I could have sworn I saw that major somewhere, might have been pre-professional.

Kinesiology will vary greatly between schools. The ones that have the rep for "easy jock major" will be the larger public universities with DI atheltic programs. You need to look at the major SPECIFIC for the school you are going at and then decide. I was a kinesiology major at my school (small liberal arts college) and i loved every minute of it. The classes were challenging and covered a wide range of material and I feel was very well prepared for med school. I took courses in human anatomy, human physiology, biomechanics, biochemistry of exercise, sports psychology, diet/disease and exercise, and more. I came out with a fantastic education. Also, at my school, the requirements for the major were perfectly in line with the pre med requirements - so i was taking calsses I would have been takign anyways. To graduate in Kines you needed to have taken a year of bio, physics, ochem, etc. ON TOP of all the kines related courses. It was perfect. If I hadnt been planning on applying to med school, I just would have done a Kines minor and skipped all those stupid pre med courses and taken all of the cool kines classes. But it worked out.

The "wise choice" for a major would be the one that you are passionate about. The one that you are goign to enjoy taking classes in and enjoy studying for. I had a blast as a kinesiology major - you should too. The same goes for any major that you choose. It doesnt matter to the adcoms at all. If you choose a major you enjoy - you'll be happier, youll be motivated to do well in and learn the material (not for the grade, but because you actually enjoy learning it. The grade will come as a consequence of that).

If you have any questions about kines, feel free to PM me.

Sounds neat! The kinesiology classes do look very interesting to me.

Schools I am looking at are Wake Forest (probably my #1 choice right now), Rice, USC, UMich. Do you know about how those are in kinesiology?

Wow, some schools offer a kinesiology major that I didn't know about. I looked up USC and Rice and they had such a major, Rice actually has it under their School of Humanities for some reason.

Oh, and I saw you made the same thread on CollegeConfidential and got some bad advice. Don't listen to some of the users on there, they're random moms who think they know they're talking about, and you definitely do not need to major in bio/chem/bme for med school, nor is kinesiology for just PE teachers. That's complete BS.

Yea the two who posted the most on my thread were moms (that seems to have no life? Well one of them...) I'm gathering more info...but seems like from people who understand med school admissions will agree with what you said.

I always find it disturbing that all the parents on there have "mom" or "dad" in their username like they live for nothing but their children. I think to myself, if I have kids, am I going to be like that? The one who commented on your thread suggests Alabama for everyone and doesn't shut up about it. LoL.

Why are the parents on cc anyways? After their kids go to college that is... Haha...thats funny.

Because they have nothing to do after their kids leave home but sit at a computer and discuss their children.

major whatever you want to major in
kinese is a real major, but of course its depth varies among schools
for an institution like WF, you should be fine
your major has little to do with you getting into medical school; pick what you want to study in and excel at it. that's all they want to see.
