Hi guys....I need some help...I am a canadian permanent resident staying in Canada for last 1&1/2 year. I got accepted in a U.S college. Can anyone tell me how should I go ahead with my loan procedure.Should I consider Canadian Banks or Is there any option for me in U.S also.
Help will be truly appreciated.

Hi Phoenix

First of all, congratulations on your acceptance. Way to go, buddy 👍

With regards to your loans, I think you can go to any Canadian bank and ask about loans for professional students. There is such a loan program at RBC. However, the problem with these loans is that you have to pay the monthly interest on the loan while you're in school. I don't know about your financial situation so don't know if that's okay with you.

The other option is to get a loan in the US. Now, as far as I know, you cannot get a federal loan since you're a Canadian resident. I think the only way you could get a loan is a private loan with a company like the American Education Services (AES) (This is where I've got mine from and I'm Canadian as well). But you need to have a US cosigner to get it. The good thing about this private loan is that you can defer paying interest while in school. However, if you do not have a US cosigner, you might be forced to take out a loan at a Canadian bank. My suggestion is to look at all the possibilities i.e at Canadian banks, as well as US private loans if you have a US cosigner, weigh the pros, and cons (such as interest rate, repayment conditions etc) and then decide which of the options is best for you. You can also talk to the financial aid advisor at your dental school and see what he/she suggests. The whole process is a bit of a hassle but it can be done. Good luck. Hope that helps a bit.

BTW, which US dental school did you get accepted into and what are your stats? Thanks.

Thanks a lot Cheer Up for ur help. You have really provided a clear picture in front of me.
I got acceptance from BU & my stats r 93,260.3.69.

You're welcome. Good luck with dental school. BU is a great school...and quite expensive as well 🙂

Hey, do you mind telling us what you got asked during the interview and what you had to do for the clinical exam? Thanks, again

I will be happy to share my experience with you.The interview process in BU was encouraging & easy too.
There was no clinical exam there though I gave many in Canadian Schools so I was not quite scared of it.
The day started with the tour given by Advanced standing student. I enjoyed that as I was never given tour by any of the Canadian Schools. The interview was also like a normal conversation b/w two individuals. They just wanted to make sure that I am not a *****.
Hope that answers your question.

Yes, you can, provided that you get into a degree program and not a certificate program. All you have to do is take the Canadian National Board Exam which is the one that everyone has to take, anyway.
