I think I remember this one. If I'm right, that part of the passage referred to the end of the experiment, where the experimenters were trying to precipitate the end product (or maybe they were trying to remove it from the solution? I forget, but the answer doesn't change either way because the end goal remains the same), in this case either copper or zinc sulfide. Copper's Ksp was a bit lower, so it was easier to precipitate which lead to a better yield.
