Lab requirements for med school?

I am a little bit confused as to how the laboratory requirements work for medical school. Some undergraduate programs are structured so that you have one year of gchem/ochem/physics lecture, but only one semester of lab. But some medical schools say they want "one year of [gchem/ochem/physics] with lab"

So does the lab have to be two semesters even if your university only offers one semester of lab to go with a year of lecture?

Some schools may allow you to substitute another semester of lab in a more advanced course in the same field of study. However, I would try and figure out what exactly is covered in your labs and talk to your pre-med advisor about this issue to get their input. Obviously you wouldn't be the first person to deal with this. It's also possible that a year of lab is compressed into one semester, depending on how the courses are structured.
