sorry, I took a vacation to Florida; i had an interview at Nova, and took three more days to relax, and tour some hot spots; Mickey Mouse was a little bit smaller than the last time that I saw him... <img src="graemlins/laughy.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughy]" /> ; anyway, I put a deposit down for UofM, and should be starting in August;
when are you going to be applying??

lalo5,

How are you? I live near and graduated from U of Mich undergrad. I was wondering what is it that made you choose U of Mich or Nova? Was it the name recognition?

I feel that when I went to U of Mich dental school it seemed really primitive in the clinic area compared to that of NOVA. It really seemed like a research school more than a clinical one. Can you please shed some light on this? thank you! and Congrats on your acceptance.!! :clap:

por supuesto!!
no problem, I would be happy to try to shed some light into the subject! I received the interview from Mich. in Mid-January, and Nova end-January. The following week, after the Mich interview, I received the acceptance letter from Mich. As of yet, I haven't received any type of letter from Nova, although it should be arriving in the mail soon, as the committee was to meet the day following my interview. Anyway, with all of that being said, I choose Michigan really because of a variety of reasons which, at that time, and even now still pertain, include excellent reputation of the school, early clinical experience with their vertically intergrated and comprehensive patient clinics, economical(very important in my decision), and (this is a post-inverview/visit reason)general overall satisfaction with student sentiment of the program and the overwhelming support system that seems to exist between the faculty/students.
The reasons that I had originally choose Nova were reasons probably not too uncommon from those of many others who chose/have chosen Nova: modern facilities, reputable faculty, and favorable climatic conditions. After having interviewed at both schools, I can honestly say that my decision to choose UofM, for my individual circumstances, was the best. I do give credit to Nova, and their early beginnings, however, some of the things that I saw as negative, for me, were 1. lack of research being done(i have an interest in conducting research as a dental student), and the what appears to be limited amount of assistance given for financial aid.(the financial aid portion of the interview lasted for about 10 minutes, if that. Just the bare minimals were covered.)
So, I hope this may help a little bit. Of course, we all have different interests and needs, and one school that is excellent for one may not be good, or in fact bad for another. All is a matter of relativity.
Let me know where u decide to go!, if I recall from your previous posts, you were looking very favourable to Nova's program.
I'd be interested in knowing the outcome.
Good luck!

lalo5,

Thanks for the extensive reply!

U of Mich is a really good school if your looking to do research. I was looking for the more clinical based enviornment. I am very happy with NOVA. I will keep you posted...Good Luck!!!

GO BLUE!!! (I can still say that!!)
