do you guys think it matters that my letter of interest is 4 paragraphs rather than 3? i know donna sullivan said it was supposed to be 3, but mine just doesn't fit into 3 very nicely. if you think it should be 3, can you please give me the specific outline of what you're supposed to say in each paragraph? i remember her saying something like it's a persuasive letter and "you all know the drill" or something to that effect, but apparently i don't know the drill 😉.

i wrote a three paragraph letter, but one of those paragraphs was really long. plus i attached an additional essay which was itself 5 paragraphs. months later, i have yet to hear anything from their admissions office. i feel your pain -- this waiting game sucks. it sucks harder when the admissions office personnel are mean to you when you call.

They say write a 3 paragraph persuasive letter - so thats exactly what I did. I don't think its a coincidence that Ms. Sullivan ALWAYS says to write a 3 paragraph letter. I'm not sure why they only want 3 paras - but I'm sure they have their reasons. I'd just keep editing to get it to 3. Plus then if you don't get in - you won't keep yourself up wondering if its because you wrote a 4 paragraph letter.

🙁 i guess i will try to make it three. it's just that i have these short intro/conclusion paragraphs that i really think should stand on their own, and i can't combine the middle two paragraphs into one b/c that would be really loooong. anyway, i'll have to tack the conclusion onto the end of the third paragraph i guess.

im sorry but this is ridiculousness at its finest. w/ all thats going on in the world, this lady cares so much that a letter of interest is 3 instead of 4 paragraphs. what a bunch of crap. even the notion that an admissions person would be encouraging applicants to write letters of interest kind of negates the impact of it (if every single applicant winds up writing one) but if thats not enough, to encourage the applicants to write essentially letters that are clones in structure. rubbish.

lola, id send in whatever version reads the best, who cares if its 4 paragraphs.

The first letter of interest I wrote georgetown back in january was 4 paragraphs. It sounds like what you have written lola. A short intro, two main paragraphs and a short conclusion. The second letter I wrote them was only 3 paragraphs because I was mainly restating what I had said in the first letter. I was accepted off the waitlist a month ago so I guess the 4 paragraph letter didn't do me in.

I wouldn't stress the number of paragraphs...I didn't follow the outline and I don't know if I touched on what Ms. Sullivan said to write, but I made sure that what I wrote was authentic and indicative of how I view G'town Med. And it must have worked. Did any one else go to Toombs (sp?) when you visited? I couldn't tell you too many details if you didn't ( 😉 , too many Pabst Blue Ribbons), but I expect to be putting pack a few with some of y'all if we end up there...

chronic,
but was your letter 3 paragraphs?
sorry, i told you guys this was a LAME question 😉. i mean, 3 paragraphs, 4 paragraphs, who cares?! but i NEED this acceptance 🙁.

i found it! yep, 3. just like last night when 3 honeys crept through the door and the chronic and his boys took care of buisness.

Hey scootad, first of all, pull the stick out of your a$% man. Lola just had a simple question and not everyone is walking around with multiple acceptances like you...it's a very nervous time for a lot of people, esp at this time of year.

Lola, mine was actually 4 paragraphs as well, but the last paragraph was only 2-3 concluding sentences and i don't think it's a big deal. If you're really worried, call ms. sullivan and ask. She's really nice on the phone from my own experiences. For the paragraphs, i basically wrote the positive aspects of gtown, why i would be an asset there, and then why i find it a match for myself and is unique from other schools. Good luck and we'll both be hoping for good news soon!

I like Lola, i was directing my anger at the admissions lady not her!

i met her at a club down in old soho where we drank champagne and it taste just like cherry cola....

scootad., the thing w/ gtown is that you will not be considered if you are on the waitlist and do not write the letter. she told us this at our interviews, and also told us the letter was supposed to be a 3 paragraph persuasive letter. bleh. i dunno... seems pretty lame if it can't be 4! mine is like a short intro(1), why i want to go to gtown & it's a good match for me(2), what i will contribute to gtown(3), and then a short conclusion/thank you(4).

ah i see. good luck, I really hope you get in! 🙂

Lola, I feel your pain. I wrote my letter to GTOWN some 3 weeks ago and ended up w/ 3 big-ass paragraphs. I really don't think that 4 paragraphs instead of 3 will affect your chances, but I think it's best to do as told. Anyway, I was sent an acceptance postmarked less then a week after GTOWN received my letter. So yes, I am glad I went w/ the 3 paragraph letter. And as has been said already, Mrs. Sullivan told me that the only people that will be accepted until the class is full are those that write the letter. Good luck!!!

P.S. Chronic, you definitely going to GTOWN next yr?
