I asked this in the pre-dental forum but then thought this might be a better forum for my question.

Does anybody know if students (dental students) get special pricing on laptops and software? If so, how does this work - do we need student numbers or student ID's? Do Dell and IBM have such deals or do we go through our local school programs or bookstore? I know some schools (like Nova) include a laptop as part of the program but Ohio State (class of 2010 ) does not so I'm on my own it seems....

Thanks in advance!

Sure, but you might have to go through your school. Our bookstore has discounts for Thinkpad (Lenovo?), Dell, and Apple computers. Check with your school to see if you have any similar deals.

Personally I got my computer directly from Apple. They offer educational discounts on their website. Check them out.

Oh, and for the Apple website I actually didn't need a student ID or what have you, but apparently if you go into the store you need to show some proof of enrollment. Even your letter of acceptance works.

Student Discount???

At our school we were required to buy a certain laptop Dell D800 and I'm sure we paid a significantly larger amount than a comparable machine at any store. ($2,300)

It does come with 4 years of service for just about anything that goes wrong with it, but...$2,300...hardly a discount in my book.

Just one more thing to capitalize on students expense. You are right you can get better prices if you go shop on your own.
