Getting laser refractive surgery is analagous to getting a permanent pair of corrective lenses. The rate of prescription change depends on how often a patient needs to have prescription changes in the past. If your prescription changes yearly, then it is highly likely that it will continue to do so after laser refractive surgery.
Complication rates range from 1:500 to 1:1000/1:2000. Failure rates depend greatly on your co-morbidities.
Some risks involved are: infection, excessive thinning of the cornea, corneal melts, activation of viral keratitis, and flap displacement with LASIK.
