Hi,

AAMC just opened MCAT registration a couple of days ago.

What is the latest date to make sure that Medical schools received your scores at the same time as the first applicants? (Just 1st or whatever day is the first day you can submit?)

There are test dates which are 5/18, 5/23, 5/30 being the last date.

Also, the last 2 dates are 8 AM exams--anyone noticed its better to take 1 pm exams than 8 ams?

Thanks.

Well it takes 30-35 days for the scores to show up. So if you wanted the scores to be available on June 1st, you probably wouldn't pick a May date. If you wanted them to be available by the first day schools will get your application, then the earlier two May dates would work better. However, the third date will be essentially the same since schools will get the score within a few days of receiving your application.

I understand that you may be trying to save money by applying to schools that your scores match and you want to have it in by the first day. My advice, apply to one school to get your application verified. You can add more schools after that.

However, taking it later isn't going to put you at a disadvantage. I took the June testing date and was accepted two days ago. I don't think I was at any disadvantage. In fact, I think I had an advantage because I had a whole month extra to study than the May dates.

You get your scores back in a month...backcalculate when you think you should take it. Although it depends on how confident you are, it might be smart to allow enough time for a possible retake, because you know sometimes **** happens.

8am or 1pm is completely up to the individual. If you can't wake up in the morning then by all means take the 1pm.

i took my first test at 8 AM-----28Q
i took my second test at 1 PM------35Q

i am definitely not a morning person, so taking it in the afternoon was to my advantage...but I also did better prep the second time around, so my score increase probably has more to do with that than with the time of day i took the test

Whichever time you pick, though, make sure to try to take your practice exams around the same time within your daily routine.

So you would say there probably isn't a disadvantage to taking the May 30 testing date with regard to having the schools see your scores?

How about June 20th, 2013? too late if you are trying to get into class of 2018?

I took the June test and already have an acceptance. There was no disadvantage from taking the June test.

Wow, yeah, I am on your MDapps. Really nice! Gives me a lot of hope. Your nonclinical volunteering is spectacular imo.👍

I would recommend an April or May testing date just in case you need to retake it again. You'll have some room to retake it in June or July and still have a relatively early complete date.

If you want to do a morning test, organize your study routine and practice tests for the morning. The same wisdom applies for afternoon tests. You'll be more focused on test day.

Thanks, but I don't think there is anything really that great on there. I think of myself as average.

True, practice how you will test. If you are taking a morning test, only take the practice tests in the morning.

What month will you take it? It is all up to you. If you can study for school and the MCAT at the same time, then take an early test. I know I couldn't do it. That is why I took the test twice. I took the May test and tried to study during school... it didn't work out. I learned my lesson.

I made sure I set aside enough time for the second time. I finished classes in early May and then studied for the rest of the month full time. In June, I took practice tests and studied even more. I scored lower than my average by 2 points, but I am happy with that score.
