For those of you who aren't familiar with the program, I wanted to let you know about an organization called Students for Organ Donation. Founded by college students 2 years ago, the organizations works on college campuses to raise awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation and encourage people to register as organ donors.

We are extending an open invitation to high school, college, and graduate students to join the movement by establishing a chapter of the organization at their campus.

This is a great opportunity to gain real leadership experience while making a difference in an increasingly important field of public health. For more info, check out our website at www.studentdonor.org.

Feel free to post any questions here.

Make sure you inform the public that just registering as donors isn't always enough. You must talk to your next of kin about your decision, as they will be the one who actually gives consent when the time comes.

Do you also promote awareness for tissue and eye donation?

We encourage people to donate everything they are comfortable donating at the time of death, including tissues and corneas.

And of course, we always encourage people to share their decisions with their families.

The first of our internship opportunities with organ procurement organizations has been posted at our website at www.studentdonor.org. Even if you aren't currently a member of Students for Organ Donation, you are welcome to check out these opportunities to get paid work experience in public health.
