I got an apartment at Granada for about $330(cheap). I haven't leased the apartment yet as i am waiting to get the application/lease form. There is a bus route that goes from granada apartment to about 2blocks from the lecom campus and it takes about 10minutes(as the secretary stated and i don't know if it is true, do you guys know???). She also stated that a couple of the students take the bus.

I know i heard alot of bad stuff about granada apartments. But all i care is about a place to sleep and affordable(cheap). Plus, it is just a walking distance from shopping centers. www.lecomsga.com states that about 20students currently reside in granada apartments. There are so many granada apartment buildings, do you know which granada apartment building is the best?

What is so bad about granada apartments?

thnx.

Granada = BAD for most people. Some are happy. Most are not. Cheap? Yes. But in both price and quality...What's so bad? A friend of mine was touring and when he put his hand on the handrail going up some stairs, it came off the wall. 3 other friends broke their leases because it sucked so much. Lake View/Scenery Hills is the best. 30 sec drive, nice places to live. And there's a garage.

Students taking the bus? Sounds like the secretary was giving you a bunch of Horse poop to me. You can take the bus if you like...but do you really want to? Don't forget the majority of Erie and it's Erie-ites are weird. Stay clear. And uneducated. Only place in the country where I have been called a "China-man". the guy meant no disrespect, he just didn't know any better. So get a car. Drive. And that 2 block walk from the bus stop will seem like miles in the winter, I promise.

I have to agree with DaNugget. Granada sucks for the most part. If you are in a bind, and can't find any other place to live affordably, you can survive with it for a year (I did!). Although the space is a great size for the money (what a bargain!), the space itself is old and most importantly, the management is horrible. 1) They don't respond to anything, 2) when they get around to fixing things, they don't tell you they fixed them, 3) the common facilities (laundry room, etc.) look like a dump. I just never had a good experience with them when I was there, and it all started on day one. Things were broken when I moved in that I wasn't told about and it took them months to fix them.

It comes down to what you're willing to put up with. I have two friends who don't necessarily think it's the greatest place, but who haven't had as many problems as I have-they're staying there next year. I can't stand smoke and cat pee, and that's what the hallways and some of the rugs smell like. I just didn't want my apartment to be a concern of mine all the time, so I've moved to Lakeview with a friend. They've been very good throughout the whole process-very professional.

Good luck.

If you like the location and the lay of the buildings, I can suggest looking into Mill Glenn...however, I'm not sure if he has spots still available. The manager's very nice and is fond of LECOM students. Apartments will more expensive than Granada but honestly not that much.

Thnx for the responses. I am just considering granada apartments. I am having a difficult finding other cheap 1-bedroom apartment. I have not signed any lease with them but it is my second option.

It seems like you have lived at granada apartment. Which apartment building is the best interms of safety, more lecom students and more quiet? Granada has about 18 apartment buildings. The lady stated that each building has an unfilled apartment(s). So, i was wondering which one is the best. Do you know? thnx.

Sorry,

Don't think I can help you. I was in building 34 (1603) on Sunrise Lakes Drive and it was a mix of students (DO, Pharm and others), old people, and middle-aged people. It was never really that loud at all or really that sketchy. However, different buildings I am sure have different make-ups. The LECOM students are all over that complex. I was only ever in one other building in Granada and nothing in particular jumped out at me about the residents. Good luck.

I have lived in Granada for a year and have had no problems. A few of my classmates last year did have problems with heating, leaking windows and other stuff. I do plan on living there again this year. I will say that the management people are not that friendly and they seem bothered by me even when I want to give them a rent check.

On the granada apartment application, it asks you your social security number, date of birth and employment information. Did you guys have this kind of application when you rented an apartment at granada???? I think it is odd that an apartment complex has to request all these personal information. I never had an apartment manager ask for my social security number.

thanks.

Granada is not bad so long as nothing goes wrong/breaks/floods in your apartment. I lived in 5957 Jodie Lane #6 and it was pretty nice, actually. If anyone from the sketchy management/maintenance crew has to enter your apt, BE SURE to be there with them...Otherwise you might lose some CD's or jewelry

And nobody I know of rides the bus to LECOM....Plus don't rely on any mode of transportation to be on-time in the winter.....Erie PennDot is particularly inept at plowing snow....It took me almost ten minutes to drive my own car from LECOM to Granada in the winter....plus another two hours at least to walk from the "upper deck" parking lot to the back door.

when does snow start? is it in october or november?

If I remember correctly, the snow started before Halloween last year...And of course it continues into April. It's one of those things you grow accustomed to in Erie.

I had to give my complex my ss number for a credit check. So I guess that could be why they need it, but I would ask them for sure.

as someone who has lived in erie since 1981...I can tell you that snow can start in erie as early as mid-sept...I have seen it start in mid-dec...but halloween time seems to be the norm

Mid-September? I'm glad it didn't start that early the two years I was in Erie! (Although in my first year I think the first snow was October 10.) Eventually you get used to snow, but I never really grew to like it.

yes...mid-september...i hope it doesn't this yr...i want to get more golfing in!

Just remember, once the snow starts, it seems to snow every day after that until March. That simple fact alone makes it worth getting up early so that you can get a good parking space at LECOM!!!
